So what are you doing for Halloween?

I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] ashfae (who, in turn, stole it word-for-word from [livejournal.com profile] king_laugh):

It's that time of year again!

Time for the lj Guising challenge!

Guising, for those of you who don't know, is the Scottish Hallowe'en tradition which is being replaced by the American "Trick or Treat". I feel very passionately that this is a trend which ought to be reversed, and have ranted about it on lj in years past.

Guising is when children go from door-to-door on Hallowe'en, but instead of uttering the same moronic, monotonous phrase (which basically amounts to a threat) every time, and expect something for nothing, they are expected to perform a "party piece": sing a song, tell a joke, recite poetry, tell a story, or otherwise perform for their monkey nuts and toffee apples.

To participate in the lj guising challenge, you should, on Hallowe'en, post something creative, be it a story, poem, drawing, photo of your pumpkin-lantern, photo of yourself in costume... and invite your friends to comment with virtual monkey nuts and sweets!

Now, doesn't that sound like fun?

I post something interesting almost everyday and I don't see anyone giving me candy for it, virtual or otherwise.

Then clearly we should be!
