A question about SMHC
Mar. 25th, 2006 07:20 pmOkay folks. A question for those of you who are reading She Married Her Choice.
How long (ie: drawn-out) do you want this story to be? I could make it either a few chapters longer, or add 10+ chapters to what I've got. The end result will be the same.
So which should it be?
I need to know soon as I'm just about at the crossroads. And please don't tell me to write what I want, because I really, truly could go either way. What I want is to know what you guys want. Lengthwise, not plotwise.
So?

Date: 2006-03-26 04:14 am (UTC)I think I understand your dilemma. The end result will bring us to the same place; it depends on how much detail and play-by-play we wish to experience of The Worst Week of Hermione's Life.
I can't help it. I still say, LONGER! LONGER! I enjoy your prose too much to opt for the swifter way out -- even if it meant a more timely release of our Heroine from the prison of her doubts, insecurities, and misunderstandings with the Potions master, I would still want to know more.
My two knuts!
Re: How Much?
Date: 2006-03-26 10:03 pm (UTC)The consensus seems to be "longer," and since I have the outline for that pretty much written out...
You do realize that longer means a hell of a lot more angst, don't you? (Character development, as well, but a ton more angst.)
How long?

Date: 2006-03-26 07:24 am (UTC)Aw, hell, just so long as you finish it and don't keep us waiting for months in between chapters. Go long!

Date: 2006-03-26 10:12 pm (UTC)Okay. And I promise to finish it as long as I am possibly able to. It'll drive me crazy otherwise. =)

Date: 2006-03-26 11:25 am (UTC)1. the extra chapters really have nothing to do with the original story line and could actually be a whole different story or;
2. you feel as though you might get bored with writing the extra stuff and wind things up hurridly just to finish or;
3. you think you might give up on Harry Potter fanfic all together, leave the story unfinished and bugger off for parts unknown without leaving a forwarding address.
So if you think none of those conditions apply then definitely longer.

Date: 2006-03-26 10:20 pm (UTC)2. Always a possibility, but if I ever did hurriedly finish it up, it would bother me, and start to fester. I'm doing this as much for the writing excercise as anything, and if I wimp out, then what kind of lazy-ass writer am I?
3. Doubtful. I might bugger off to parts unknown with no forwarding address, but then the story would be written the old-fashioned way: by hand. I would send it (without a return address, mind) to the nearest friend and have them post for me. ;P Okay, probably not, but the likelihood of me buggering off is extremely unlikely, unless we're all buggering off together.
(Hmm. Note to self: slangy wording needs work.)
Okay then. Longer it shall be. Thanks!
