Christmas lights

So, would anyone be interested in sharing the most, erm, spirited (or garish, depending on your point of view) Christmas light display in their neighborhood/town (even if it's your own)? Kind of meme-like?

Even though I think taking things to the extreme is pretty tacky, I can't help but enjoy the joy of the season that literally radiates from those displays. One very fond memory I have is seeing the humongous display covering the courthouse? City Hall? (big, classical, forbidding-gray, official-looking building) in downtown Sydney. Red and green "ribbons" (at least fifteen feet wide) wrapped around the building along with several slightly-smaller-than-Macy's-Parade-sized balloons of Santa and snowmen. It was tacky as all get out, but it was so cheerful. I loved it.

So, wannna share? If so, I'll rush out and take pics of the house I'm thinking of.

A tacky light tour! I've actually been thinking about posting a picture of the house next door, where stringing the lights took about a week and which can be seen from the moon, if not Saturn. (Really, I'm not being mean. The lights are one of my fave parts of Christmas, actually, tho I keep mine on the restrained side.) so, yeah, post, and I'll run out and take a pic or two.

Hoo hoo hoo! It's too late to go out tonight, but tomorrow I'll remember to take the camera with me and swing around to the house I've in mind on my way back home.

Hee hee.

Oh, I have just the one. We pilgrimaged to see it every year when I was growing up. Huge hours and lawn, with lights everywhere and Santa and his reindeer set up and tons of snowmen. And, written in huge letters on the roof, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS."

Across the street was another hours with "Eat at Joe's" written in red and orange lights in their front window. The contrast was just excellent.

In lieu of that though I'd love to go catch some ofthe ones out here and take photos. They're *terribly* tacky. Everyone here loves giant inflatable things and garish lights, and worst of all, signs with "Santa please stop here!" types of kitsch.

What a great idea! The concept of huge, flashy Christmas light displays has only recently arrived here, but already there are people taking it way too far :) I have also seen some very tasteful and festive light displays in windows. And our central station is very beautifully decorated this year!

Oh, that does sound delightfully tacky! Boulder or Florida?

Tacky light hunting is quite fun. The glow of discovery reaching out beyond the bend... delightful!

Oh, the tasteful ones are fabuous, don't get me wrong. I would like to think I would err on this side of tasteful, but the exuberance of the tacky shows is just so... fun!

Pics, please?

I'll try to get some pics and post them...either here or on my journal.
