Hello all. Your friendly artist in residence here. I would like your opinion on this piece I did today, without adding my own to color yours (no pun intended). All I'll say is that I'm not sure it's finished, but if it isn't, it's close.
It's strange, sort of like reflections in water. You always have such unusual color choices. Sometimes I think you really do see things differently that others.
Ha. I kinda think it looks like reflections in water as well. It started as "Rocks." Funny, that. I may see things differently, but I doubt it. This was based upon a photo (or a small portion of a photo) of a red cliff face. The blues are kind of accidental, but I think I'm glad.
Thing is, I can't decide whether I like this painting or not. There's something vaguely menacing about it that disturbs me, and I don't know if it's because it went in s completely different direction than I intended or if it's the painting or my filters... The colors in this pohoto are slightly off, as well. The painting has a very chilly feeling to it, to me. It's not a painting I want on my walls, but I think it might be worth showing.
But definitely water, right? LOL. This painting started out as "Rocks." It kinda veered off course, but I like that it did. So did the green painting. *shrug*
And it makes me think of a frozen swamp in a sunset. The colors are just slightly off in the photo, as the painting has a slightly cooler feel to it, but the sunset aspect is definitely there. And maybe I just see it as cooler because that's the weather I'm preparing for (so it's constantly on my mind). *shrug*
Thanks, Gin. (Oh, and btw: I like getting non art critic's opinions even more than art critics'; sometimes a less *cough*refined*cough* eye sees the piece better. :-)
:) Ahhhh, but you see, to me... camping in the mountains is usually rather coolish. Although, I'm not getting the image of it being frozen over. The vegitation comes across as being dead, though. Makes it a bit haunting almost.
And see, for me camping always implies hot and summer. DOn't know why, though. I remember one camping trip, in the mountains, in March, where the kettle full of boiling water froze solid during the night. Yeah. That was fun. (My parent were psycho!)
Swamps are kind of haunting. Beautiful, especially when it's foggy, but haunting. :-)
It reminds me of this place in north Georgia I used to go to as a kid. There is a stream, and there was always a dead tree or two(or ten) laying/floating in it. We would go in late Jan. and the snow would just be melting, it reminds me of that, at sunset. I like it. :D
Cool! (No pun intended.) That's kind of what I see, too, except I see it more as a swamp than stream. That's just 'cause there are swamps galore around here.

Is this an autumnal painting?

Your art has really grown in the past few years, had I told you that?
