Potty training woes

Um, is it possible to miss the potty training window? Babe was completely into the whole potty training experience. He was fascinated with the bathroom (it was his favorite room); he competed with us to flush the toilet; he was bursting in on us unless we locked and barred the bathroom doors because he was eager to see what we were doing and putting words to it; he was taking off his pants at inconvenient times, or quietly slipping away to take off that pesky diaper without letting us know until it was too late... the lot. He even took off that pesky diaper, used the potty, and put his pants back on once or thrice.

Now? "Do you need to use the potty?" we ask when he does the dance. "No." If I try to take him into the bathroom anyway, he screams. "Are you pooping?" we say when we get a whiff of something unsavory. "No," he says matter-of-factly then pauses in concentration. "Do you need a new diaper?" we ask while trying not to hold our noses. "No!" he declares, and often screams and kicks when we wrestle him down for a change anyway.

What happened? Did we do something wrong? Did we 'not pressure' him too much? Or is he just continuing with his pesky pattern of "Oh, I've accomplished this thing, so now I can move on to the next thing and not bother continuing this pointless practice until further notice," i.e. "been there, done that." That's how it was with his talking (he said "banana" ridiculously early, and yes, it was a deliberate word; he used it twice and then didn't say it again for a year!), and a couple other things that I can't quite think of right now.

I don't wanna wait another year!!!

Help?

Oy... I'm NOT looking forward to that part of having a baby... fortunately for me, that's awhile coming...

I was pretty stubborn as a child... *sigh*

Good luck!!!

How old is Babe again? Our three year old did that, the Dr said she just wasn't ready(she was barely 2 at the time) they go through a stage though. The bathroom is the COOLEST room in the house, then suddenly....bathroom...pft who cares. LOL. Good Luck, He'll use the potty eventually, and you'll be like, when did this happen, my baby's growing up!!! Oh No!! LOL

I don't have any kids so I have no useful advice to offer but just a story instead. One of my brothers has twins and the boy was using the potty at 2.5ish with no fuss. The girl, however, declared that she wasn't using the potty until she was 16. She has since ratchted that down to 3 because her mum has been tempting her with being able to wear the cool princess panties.

LOL. Yeah, I've considered using bribery, but so far Babe has a very inconsistant record on how well that works. He has to be at least willing to consider something before bribery works.

Besides, we haven't really figured out what he wants to be bribed with.
