The Prince's Wood, Part Four
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Still PG.
Still Drama/suspense, only with more humor thrown in
Word count is 100 x 7
He didn't stay for long, but he smirked the entire time. As soon as he left, she collapsed onto the chair and started sobbing in relief. She had been so certain that he was going to do something to her, physically, but in the end all he seemed interested in was a bit of mental torture.
She wrapped her arms around herself and rocked back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. She didn't even realize she was vocalizing as she mentally wailed for her mummy.
She jumped when a loud crack sounded, followed by a soft, bewildered, "Hermione?"
~8~
Hermione looked up at the word, and all the color drained from her face at what she saw.
"Mum?"
Her mother smiled at her shakily. "I know that apporting is faster, dear, but I would appreciate a little warning next time."
Hermione just stared. "Mum?"
Jane smiled at her daughter until she noticed the tear tracks. Before Hermione could blink, her mum was by her side, placing a hand on her arm. "What's wrong, darling? What happened?"
Hermione tried to catch her breath, but it was proving difficult.
"Ohgodohgodohgodohgodohgod," she chanted under her breath. "You can not be here, Mum!"

"House-elf!" she cried, politeness shoved aside. "House-elf, I need you!"
The creature appeared before them with a crack and looked at her curiously.
"Please, house-elf, I need you to take my mum back where she came from."
The house-elf looked from Hermione to the middle-aged woman in the blue scrubs then back at Hermione. He shook his head.
"What do you mean, no?" Hermione screeched. "She has to leave! She isn't safe here! Please! Take her back!"
The house-elf looked distressed, but shook his head again, spreading his arms in a sign of helplessness.

Hermione started hyperventilating. Jane, being used to dealing with panicky people, quickly took control and applied herself to calming Hermione down. The house-elf stood by, watching with wide, fearful eyes.
When Hermione was finally breathing more normally, Jane asked, "Now if you please, darling, I would like to know exactly what is going on, here. Aren't you supposed to be out hiding with the boys?"
Hermione nodded, and reluctantly told her mum the tale of being taken prisoner by Snape. Her mum looked less than pleased, but not nearly as scared as she should have.
"I'm so sorry, Mum!"
~8~
"So, Snape brought you here to protect you from Lord Whosit?"
Hermione nodded.
"Has he harmed you?"
Hermione frowned, but shook her head slowly.
"Well, I don't see what you are so worried about. It's a bother to be sure, but at least you're safe and sound!"
Hermione put her face in her hands and shook her head. "Mum," she said, looking up. "He is not a good man. He's a Death Eater. He killed Professor Dumbledore. I have no doubts in my mind that if he finds you here, he will kill you!"
Her mum just shook her head.
~8~
"Well as I say, it's a bother to be stuck here, but I won't worry much yet. Perhaps we'll find a way out before he comes back.
"What does concern me is how your father is going to react to my disappearing so suddenly. At least I wasn't working on a patient when this...creature fetched me."
Both women's attention turned to the creature in question, who was acting much more like a house-elf than Hermione had ever seen. He fidgeted nervously as they looked him over.
"Can you reassure Richard that I'm okay?"
The elf bowed and disappeared.
~8~
When the elf popped back into the room, it was hand in hand with Hermione's dad. Hermione covered her mouth and tried not to swear.
"Oh dear," Jane said. "Perhaps we should have just sent a note?"
Hermione shook her head while her mum gave her dad a welcoming peck. Richard accepted the kiss in a distracted fashion while he looked the place over.
"So this is where you've been hiding?" he finally asked as his eyes landed on Hermione again. Hermione opened her mouth but found she couldn't speak without laughing or screaming first, so she snapped it shut.
~8~
"How can you be so calm about this?" Hermione screamed, interrupting her mum's explanation of the situation.
Her parents looked at her, shocked.
"Pardon?"
"How can you just stand there and discuss this as if your lives aren't in danger?"
Jane's mouth pinched slightly and her dad frowned. "And how exactly would it help the situation for us to panic? Really, dear, where's your head?"
Hermione blushed as she realized they were right; she was being stupid again. She needed to figure out a way to protect them from Snape, and implement it before he came back in seven days.

Well, they now know that Hermione was kidnapped... ;-)

At least Hermione isn't alone any more!

Probably her mum's calmness is just because the situation hasn't sunk in yet.

Hmm... Voldemort's head on a platter would mean he'd have to harm a wizard, and I'm assuming that goes against house elf rule #1, if they're anything like robots. So, he'd just raise an eyebrow superciliously, I think. As for the Horcruxes... they are most definitely NOT safe objects, so she's out of luck there, too.
BUT... there are other ways to win the war.
I love that icon, btw! Love it!

So, not Voldemort's head. How about a nice dinner of grilled Nagini, then?
The icon is one of my faves. It's by

I'm still suspicious of that elf, though.

Heh heh heh.

Whee! Too funny!
You know what I think? I think that with Jane Granger there, Snape is in serious trouble!
I have the feeling there may be a geis to the effect that Snape has to marry Hermione if her parents have been brought to the house... don't mind me, I'm just blathering, but the mystery is thicker than ever and it gives me the fidgets!

I think you're right.
Hmm, that's an interesting thought... ;-)

Oh, and Snape must have indeed been far away, not to hear her sobbing -- or else he would have realized what was about to happen...

Those old oak doors are really quite sound-proof, especially when they're covered in wards. ;-)

More please as I want to know where you are going with this.
