Dreams, school and Sherlock

I dreamt of being on an old ship, which was a mix of an old wooden ship and something larger, like the Titanic, in a museum. I was touring the museum, which was basically made up of all the stairways the ship had, and trying not to fall as they twisted and turned (without moving) through the narrow spaces. As we finished up the tour, I decided to send a gift to my sister, which was complicated because I couldn't remember her middle name, which meant I couldn't look up her address online. When I decided that the information I had was enough to get it there, it turned out I was actually on the ship, and we were at sea. There was limited water, and no practical hygiene to speak of, and the boat had been lost for ages. And all the letters that all those on board, and from the islands we'd visited, were piled in the hull, waiting for us to reach land so we could deliver them. (And when we finally got there, it turned out my sister had received the same thing I was giving her from her best friend. And there really wasn't need for two.)

It was a rather uncomfortable dream.

Today is my last day of this semester. I retook the tests I copied, the ones that the professor is taking the final's questions from, and got three wrong. Out of 199. And seeing as I'd have to get below a 65% to lower my grade to an A-, I'm not that worried about the test. I'm more worried about the last paper due today, but even so, I doubt I'll get less than a 90% on that. And it's only worth 5% of my grade, so it's not a huge deal.

I'm looking forward to the semester being over. I'm really looking forward to finishing up the test today, as Geoff and I have arranged to have a date immediately afterwards.

I'm not especially looking forward to switching gears into studying for the English comp test coming up, but I figure an essay every other day, starting tomorrow, should get me sufficiently warmed up. And when I complete that, and I am assuming I will pass, I will have 19 credits under my belt. A full semester!

On Sunday, Geoff and I watched "A Scandal in Belgravia." I enjoyed it. I enjoyed it far less after I read "A Scandal in Bohemia," and realized how much they'd assassinated Irene's character. I kind of wonder whether the very last scene was real, however, or if Sherlock was just imagining it. I'm thinking it was real, but if they hadn't had him laugh, it could have been interpreted either way, and that would have been awesome - a way of showing how much Irene had got under his skin, and how he was choosing to deal with her death. I agree with everyone else on my flist about the indignity of needing him to save her, however. And, after reading the original, having him win at all. But mostly what I found objectionable was the fact that her motive in the show was villainous, whereas in the story she was merely an opponent - and a (relatively) good-hearted person (who was, therefore, superior in all ways to Sherlock). But we can't have anyone, let alone a woman, be better than Sherlock! Noooooooo.

So I'm wondering whether to read Baskerville before Sunday or leave it for next week... I did enjoy the show quite a bit before I read its basis. *weighs pros and cons*

Ah well. Nice to have such first world problems weighing heavily on my mind. ;-D

PS: Rest in peace, dear Mr. Sendak. And thank you for the stories.

Now I have to go and read the original.

I recommend it, though it is very short and more of a sketch than anything. Still, very enjoyable.

Ah I was going to say that was the worst of the character rape and then I remembered what they did in the hound. Watch first, read after!

Ah. Okay. Thanks for the tip!
