You know what really, really gets on my nerves? People writing stories where Snape, Hermione, hell, ANYONE is more knowledgable in all things magic than Dumbledore.

Yes, Dumbldore may be a manipulative bastard, but he is a very well educated and experienced manipulative bastard. Snape is a young man. Hermione is a child. The thought that either of them could compare to Dumbledore's knowledge and/or experience is laughable. I mean, Dumbledore was poisoned, out of his wits and probably dying, but he still managed to save Harry's butt in the cave.

*huffs*

I mean, really.

I did see a story that had a Hermione who believably got one over on Dumbledore, because he underestimated her for exactly the reasons you've described. But that's the only time I've read anyone pulling such a trick off and actually bought it.

I think I read one where that was the case, and yes, in that story the author had me suspending disbelief. The story I just stopped reading (one sentence, that's all it took)... the author actually consistently oversteps that line of suspension required and breaks the bridge. Normally I will at least finish the first chapter of her stories (I've finished a couple because her writing style is quite engaging), but I guess I've reached my threshold. Too bad... she's talented in most other respects.

Lol. Indeed. Voldie is the only one who might come close, but it's been pointed out in five books now that Voldie consistently overlooks the power of love, which means that Dumbledore is the more knowledgable, seeing as he knows about the dark spells, but, as McGonagall said, "is too noble" to use them.

That reminds me of another thing I hate: Dumbledore being written as a fool (without it being an act or a parody). He's most obviously anything but. Evil, good, that's questionable, but stupid? No.

LOL very true... *thinks if I've violated that* Probably not, all my writing is post-HBP which kind of generally leaves Dumbledore out of the picture unless he's... well... a picture! Har har... i need to go to bed

Pssht. This is why Dumbledore is dead in most of my stories... ;)

I was just going to say the same thing. It makes it much easier!
