...is tempting me to write fanfic again.

In other news, it was surprisingly difficult to log in here. And things have changed enough that I had to look around for the posting link. Hmph.

I agree with some friends that #19 totally happened.

Well, it's only fair, since I got a drabble from her...

The first 10 (or so...) people to comment on this post get to request a drabble (a real drabble: 100 words exactly) from me in one of the below fandoms. In return, recipients must post this meme in their journals.

So... Fandoms include HP, P&P, AoGG, Narnia, Avatar: The Last Airbender (cartoon)... Sorry, that's about it, but feel free to mix and match.

(I'm taking the day off today. Still ouchie, but I think there's hope for non-ouchiness in the near future.)

- The humidity level is down to something reasonable, finally. The air isn't hard to breathe for its thickness, anymore. Yay!

- I got a bit of a back rub this morning, which helped tremendously. I might be able to skip the painkillers today because of it (though probably I'll still take the anti-inflammatories).

- I submitted my final Word Lab last night and got a 95%. Normally, I'd be a bit upset about that grade, but this prof is so persnickety that I'm happy. Only the final to go, and I'm done. I'll find out my final grade on Saturday or thereabout.

- Page is busy reading an old Superman anthology of Geoff's, meaning he's not talking or otherwise making noise. It also means he's no longer trying to jump on the furniture in a way that isn't disallowed.

- Shiv updated "A Law to Herself"! (Has it really been 5 years since the last update? Really?!?)

- I got my guys to pick up their stuff, leaving the house reasonably tidy once again.

- Upcoming vacation. Oh, god yes.

- I'm going to paint again today. In fact, I'm going to go do that right now.

And you too, Ms. Espenson.

Rumpelstiltskin is eating into my brain.

I finally (finally, finally) wrote up the ficlet that Ayerf bought for the TPP auction early last year. She prompted me to write a sequel for her drabble series, "Deadly Truth".

So, here it is: Deadly Consequences.

How on earth did I manage to NOT read "Babbity Git" before now? I was positive I had!

On the plus side, I'm getting to read it now for the first time. =)

(PS: Tea and aleve did the trick. Migraine has receded.)

The forgetting pill.

Beyond being cool science, it made me think of how wrong JK got it (or how evilly right she wrote Dumbledore) in Harry's "treatment" for all the trauma he experienced.

Almost makes me want to write post-Hogwarts Harry fic showing how his life went down the tubes due to PTSD made worse by Dumbledore's efforts of remediation.

But that's not all! )

Lots to do this week, but I think I will save the writing of the to do list till tomorrow. After all, I need to catch up on the Daily Show.

Boo. Hiss.

1. No Aeternitas 2013. I'm actually really cheesed off about that. (I'm all for Sat In Ur Tea 2013, though.) Grrr.

2. No communication from Page's school. I expect when a principle calls and leaves half a message about one's child hitting another child that there would AT LEAST be a follow-up call with the rest of the message. But instead, we seem to be getting the run-around. Yes, school officials and staff are busy people. I get that. But it seems like there isn't even inter-office communication going on! Grrrrrr.

3. I suspect my computer is infected with something. Random saved cookies (and passwords) have disappeared, and the computer has been running on high an awful lot. AVG scan says there's nothing to be found. Am skeptical. Grr.

4. Page is still being an inattentive ... imp. Getting more and more concerned about his having blood sugar issues. grrrmeep.

5. Counseling center hasn't called back yet. Grr.

6. Business course doesn't have a thorough syllabus. In fact, it offers almost no details about future projects. Also, I am getting the feeling, more and more, that even in the higher education system it's all about hand-feeding the students information, rather than encouraging critical thought. Am discouraged. Grr. Rrr.

7. First half of diptych got less than encouraging reaction. *sniffle*

8. TMI 1: Oil of oregano seems to be working. Am coughing up all manner of nasties. *hack*

9. TMI 2: My hormones aren't being nice at all this month. Suspect casein sensitivity. Do not want to re-give-up cheese.

10. I have to come up with something for dinner. (There aren't enough characters allowed to convey my dissatisfaction with that.)

Someone to be writing this please?

Severus and Molly battling for control over the remote control.

How I see it playing out... )

Two formidable, manipulative people. One remote. Just how nasty does it turn?

So, I lied. I took a whopping ten photos at Aeternitas. However, seeing as most are blurry, I think I'm justified in the exaggeration. ;-)

Seeing as I haven't seen a shot of Lariope in her Umbridge outfit (although she is entirely too pretty to make it convincing), I thought I'd share what I do have.

Photos )

And then there are the doodles and drawings I did at the con. The first two I did during the last fifteen minutes of class ("Animagic - Conjuring cartoons of the Harry Potter Universe")

Look at me purdy drawrings )

So, if I only had to rely on my pictures of the con, it wouldn't look like much, would it? But fortunately, others have some great pictures to make up for my photographic laziness. (Because, really, I hid as much as possible when the cameras were out, and didn't want to force on others what I wasn't willing to take myself. With an exception or two (sorry). Also? I'm a crap photographer unless people are posing and have infinite patience for my sloooooow camera.)

Because I don't have very much time left before Page gets home (and I've promised that from then till dinner-making-time is reserved for him), I'm just going to post the barest highlights of the weekend. I may expand on them later, I may not. Probably this will be completely out of order.

HP-MA want to do the same thing again in 2013, btw. And I happily support that, especially if it's a little later, so college finals don't interfere, and if the hotel provides a microwave (at the very least), if they can't manage to get the restaurant opened up a bit early. Because (hot food = love) on a cool day.

But now I need to get moving. Hope you all have a good week!

Oh, and I took perhaps five photos the entire weekend, so you'll have to look elsewhere for that.

Why is it that no matter the time of day, I almost always feel the need to crash one hour before picking Page up?

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. Tonight is going to be a busy night. I wonder when the caffeine will kick in...

'Cause hey, there are still 12 minutes left of the morning, so ner.

This morning I am actually feeling excited about the con, rather than just approaching it with vague and conflicting feelings of anticipation and dread. Now I am definitely getting into a twitter about it. (But not tweeting, because I don't tweet.)

That lift of spirits is probably due to three things:

1. I think I actually got enough sleep and rest this weekend. Besides my four hour crash-of-a-nap on Saturday, I managed to escape doing any work throughout the weekend (except one trip to the store for con provisions). Yes, that's led to a messy house, but honestly, I think I needed it.

2. Page is at camp. He's all signed up and all's good. That means I get EIGHT hours all to myself for three days. That is a fabulous, wondrous, beautiful thing.

3. I received an email containing the potential for good news regarding the roommate situation. We still need to hear back from the other person in the pair, but if she gives the go ahead, then we have all four beds covered! Yayayayayay! I'm not counting chickens yet, but I'm a lot more hopeful than I was yesterday.

So anyway, even though it's a lot grayer and rainier today than yesterday, everything looks so much brighter.

Bright enough, in fact, that I can work out my to do list and get started (actually, I already have started, as the yogurt process has begun).

I hope all of you are having a nice Monday... oxymoron that that is. :-)
averygoodun42: (Default)
I made an approximation of vindaloo last night. I only added half the peppers called for, and it's still rather too hot. Poor Geoff wasn't able to finish his portion.

I'm starting to think it's possible those ground peppers are made from the ultra-nasty Thai peppers. Seriously hot stuff. *wipes brow and nose*

Ach well, it's a good way to get lots of water in me, right?

Happy Easter )

Roommate stressing )

Energy and weather frustrations )

Garden )

And I guess I should start thinking up a pre-con to do list. I really should. And I will.

Just not right now.
averygoodun42: (Default)

Where there were five there are now just two.

Gelsey and I have just the two of us in one room for four. I have no idea what room (or price) we have, but it's starting to look a heck of a lot more expensive than either of us bargained for.

If anyone knows anyone who is looking for a place to stay for the con, please steer them here or here or here.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnd... I think I need to get going now. Yep. Definitely.

Did I mention I'm a slug today? I did? Right. Then I'll leave before I repeat myself further, then.

I should be making chicken stock, (pomegranate or black cherry?) jello and/or roasted squash right now. However, the roast chicken doesn't have to go into the oven until 3:30, and I figure I can probably stall till then... Without trying very hard.

Geoff )

My ear is overcrowded. I want it to kick out the interlopers and get on with draining, as the neighboring sinuses are starting to complain.

Mucus aside, gross digression ), I actually had a bounce in my step this morning! An hour and a half of running around and doing errands kinds wore it down to a mild vibration, but I do think I'm on the upswing, now. Assuming my ear drains.

No sugar tonight in my coffee... )

My computer has been annoying me lately. I'm up to date on all the updates, but I can't view videos. Or rather, I can view videos if I have supreme patience. It takes forever for even a short video to buffer (that Snape personal ad took three minutes to buffer the one minute clip!) and then, with longer videos, it stops to buffer every two minutes! AAAAHH!

I've done several scans and no spyware seems to have latched on, and the (rebooted) router says it's going great guns, but... It's most annoying. Streaming is completely out until this gets fixed, and neither Geoff nor I know how to fix it. Ah well.

Knitting for Aeternitas )

Aaaaaand, that's about it. I'm sure I could blather on longer, but the laundry is actually calling to me, as is my unmade bed.

"Elizzzzaaaaabeeethhhh!" they whisper tantalizingly, "Come tennnnnnd tooooo meeeeeeeeee!"

You know you've been ill too long when the thought of doing chores is exciting. :-D

Hey, lookit! I made it onto the sshg quiz! I'm in very good company, too!

See shiny banner! )

I had been looking forward to a relaxing day of goofing off or writing today, but I have been on my toes since the alarm went off at 6:30. I am very tired now, and I still have yet to start dinner.

Fortunately, roasts are quick and easy to prepare.

Another fortunate thing is that once dinner is made (and perhaps the kitchen cleaned up a little bit?), I will be able to just sit back and relax. Which is what my doctor said I really, really, REALLY need to do.

Actually, she said "sleep," but that's just 'cause I had already noted that I was really stressed. (I've developed an eye tic, did I mention? Yeah. Since starting the trip back.)

So, come 10pm, I will go to bed. And seeing as tomorrow is Saturday, I will not set the alarm. And, you know, I think I will even let Geoff deal with Babe, should Babe wake up in the middle of the night yet again. Geoff needs his sleep, too, but he's been getting more of it than I have, and less Babe-time. It needs to even out.

And the only cooking I should need to do over the weekend is make jello and another cheesecake or two, since I intend to gobble the one I made this morning up as soon as it's cool. (Did I mention I'm stressed and tired? ;-)

Right. Enough whining. As I told the good doc, I am tired but functional (mostly), which is a vast improvement over where I've been recently. Once I do get my sleep back to decent levels, things will get even better.
