The day's not over, but so far it's been a nice change of pace. Geoff didn't get home from Deerfield until 6 this morning (at least that's what time I thought it was when I cracked my eyes open), so I was the one to get up with Babe when he invaded our room at 8.
Thing is, I didn't really mind.
At 9, it was over 60 degrees, so I thought it would be the perfect day to spend outside tackling the outdoor to-do list. Like the patio. And I made progress! The front wall thingy is almost done (about 4 feet left to fill), though the sides don't even have the trenches dug yet. Tomorrow.
It is going to look sooooooooo much better than it does right now, and waaaaaay better than the previous incarnation. I'm bummed that we'll be running out of recycled materials soon, but this is still going to be one of the cheapest patios in creation. I figure it should be under $100 total. Yay. And best of all, the yard won't look like a trash heap when I'm done! YAY! (that's been bothering me.)
I also got some potting soil and planted some of the seeds I bought the other day. One big pot full of mesclun mix, and the other big pot full of romaine. Three other smaller pots have herbs (oregano, sweet basil and garlic chives) in them, so hopefully they'll sprout and look all purdy on the newly revamped patio.
What I didn't do today was get the supplies necessary for the raised bed garden. I figure I'll buy the wood for the frame this week. (The locally owned lumber store actually offers free delivery, and their prices are quite good, besides.) The soil... I guess I'll phone around when I've got the frame assembled.
I'm not really in a rush, though. I can't really plant any of my seeds till the end of May anyway, so... except the beets and carrots, but I may plant them in pots as well. Their greens are quite attractive, and they would look nice on the patio along with everything else.
Tomorrow, besides hoping to get the next step of the patio finished, I also want to plant the sweet-pea seeds I got. They'll go by the irises, I think. Nice and sunny there.
So overall, I'm pleased. I hope I didn't get a nasty sunburn, but if I did, I have aloe. And water.
Oh, and Geoff fixed the pipes!!!! Yay! That means I can start on the laundry, and actually try to get the place cleaned up! (Good god is it filthy in here!)
While we were at big box store, I also picked up a package of door knob lock thingies, so hopefully Babe will not be able to escape again anytime soon. Not that I won't be keeping a close eye on him, though.
Thank goodness for quiet streets and friendly, watchful neighbors. Even if their sense of humor is less than ideal. ;-)
Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!
