No offence to Bette Midler, but...

*assumes sickly singing voice*
Ga-awd is wat-CHing us, Ga-awd is wat-CHing us, Gaaaawwwwd is waaaaat-ching uuuusssss, from a distance...
*/singing. Please God, end the singing!*
Ergh. Why does it have to be that one that sticks in my head? Granted "One Tin Soldier" isn't much better... although I think the message is a bit more pallatable.
So the sermon today was about the seven deadly virtues. It was interesting, but at the same time, it's one of those "well, duh" things. After all, virtue is it's own punishment. Erm... no, that's not quite right. Well it is, but it's beside the point. ;-)
Anyway, the reason I'm bringing up church at all was because I had the most peculiar vision/epiphany/thought while listening to the minister talk about a scene in "Cabaret." Since the theme of the day was the definition of evil being the perversion of good, he'd already brought up a couple of examples, most notably the fact that someone from the "God Hates Gays" camp has said, publicly, that Heath Ledger's death is retribution from God for playing that blasphemous role in Brokeback Mountain.
So, for some reason, that inspired a vision of God meeting that hateful man in heaven with open arms. God would give him a hug, welcome him into his home, and tell him to join everyone else by the fire. In the group gathered by the fire were Hitler, Stalin, Ghandi, MLK jr, Mother Theresa, Liberace and every other person who had ever lived. They were all sitting there, patiently waiting for God to return with the new arrival. They were all basking in God's love, and eagerly awaiting God's story. And God was just happy to have them there with him.
So, that's probably a "well, duh" thought for most of you, but... I don't know. It just struck me as ironic, I s'pose. And reassuring, in its own special way.
(Oh, and no panic attack today, so I'm putting Wednesday down as a fluke. Yay!)
