You all know not to leave your gas ovens/stoves on if you're leaving your home, right? I'm sure you do, as you're sensible folk. The neighbor!lady isn't so sensible. I'll be nice and blame it on pregnancy dipshitedness that she did so. She also left her door open. Not unlocked, but open. (It is still winter here. Though the storm door was closed, at least.) Which, actually, was fortunate for me, as when I smelled the gas (through the wall), and went over to investigate, I was able to go in and turn it off, and also allow the gas company man to go in and investigate. But... sheesh. I thought everyone knew that! Electric ovens are one thing (and it's still not entirely safe), but gas? At least it was just the oven and not a leak.
I've had a couple of lazy, lazy days. Yesterday I started the process of getting caught up with the exchange. I probably should have started that a while ago, as I'm only up to the 9th now (starting from the first). But, I am being good and reviewing. And not nastily, either. (shakes head at the gall of some people)
And all this reviewing reminds me that I haven't left reviews for some of my favorite stories, for which I am ashamed. Even more ashamed because many of those stories are written by friends. Last chapters seem to be especially hard to review, not that that's any excuse. Perhaps after the exchange is done, and I'm caught up, I shall re-read the stories in their entirety so as to leave reviews that might be more meaningful than: "Gods, I loved this story! I'm so sorry to see it end!" Which is usually my only thought for the first day or three.
Of course, I also still need to read my sister's original story and review that! I think that probably should take precedence.
As for other things... I've made two batches of bread with soy flour in them in the last two weeks, and I've discovered that a) it produces a moister loaf, which does lead me to the conclusion that it is the protein that makes a dense bread, b) it keeps Babe from snacking on bread alone and c) it NEEDS more sugary substance and grains to cover the taste. And it's not like I'm adding a lot of soy flour to the mix, only about 1/4 cup for every 2 cups wheat flour. Perhaps I should just use evaporated milk.
Also, I have a bunch of sourish oranges that need to be used. Does anyone have any recipes that might use them up? I've been thinking of making marmalade, but then, I don't really like marmalade unless it's in something. Like cookies. Or bread. And to make marmalade just to put into something else seems... aggravating.
I need to do some more drawing/sketching. Really, I need to do some painting, but I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon. However, I do have another SS/HG sketch to share soon. Actually, I think I've worked on it enough to call it a drawing. I'm quite pleased with it, actually.
Writing has stalled for the moment. Reading has taken precedence.
I made a decent leftover chicken enchilada casserole the other night that would have been much improved if I'd remembered to add a touch of salt to the chicken mix. Ach well.
We also got some red bean buns from the Asian market the other day. Not good for me, but... Yum.
I want to make cookies. No, what I really want is to eat cookies. But I only have about 1/2 cup sugar left, which is being used for tea purposes only, and so I don't think I shall make cookies. However, one of these days I wil make mung bean buns. I've got all the ingredients I need for that!
Oh, and I also need to squee about the second gift I got on the exchange! SQUEE!!! I got art!
