A quick beta, please?
Oct. 31st, 2008 06:51 pmIf someone could quickly read through this artist's statement and check it out for the usual things (SPAG, clarity and whatnot), I would be very grateful. I'll write you a drabble or draw you a sketch of your choosing (assuming I'm familiar with what you ask).
Thanks in advance!
I like to wander around the world wide web on occasion (okay, fairly often), and during one visit, I came across a quiz that supposedly measures how you perceive things. It's like a mini, non-scientific Myers-Briggs test for how you see the world. Like the Myers-Briggs, you are sorted into one of sixteen possible molds, and when you complete it, you are given a four letter acronym to define yourself. The categories are Humanity vs Nature, Background vs. Foreground, Big Picture vs Detail, and Shape vs Color.
My result was somewhat surprising - to me, anyway. According to the quiz, I am an HBPS - The Optimist:
"You perceive the world with particular attention to humanity. You focus on the hidden treasures of life (the background) and how that fits into the larger picture. You are also particularly drawn towards the shapes around you. Because of the value you place on humanity, you tend to seek out other people and get energized by being around others. You like to ponder ideas and imagine the many possibilities of your life without worrying about the details or specifics. You are in tune with all that is around you and understand your life as part of a larger whole. You prefer a structured environment within which to live and you like things to be predictable."
What struck me about the result was the truth that now I do focus as much on shapes as on colors in my art, even though playing with colors is still central to my love of painting and observing the world. The play of shapes set against each other, the negative spaces that seek attention, the form of life is as important to me as the colors that make it so exciting. Go figure.
As for whether the rest of the description fits me, I'll leave that for you to decide on your own.
If you're curious, the quiz is at: http://www.helloquizzy.com/tests/the-perception-personality-image-test
As a side note, my art is available for purchase and, if you should decide you just can't live without one, half the proceeds will go toward the church. See ________ for a list with prices.
Cheers.
Thanks in advance!
