I'm considering entering a photo into a local "Winter Wonderland" contest. Basically, they're asking for winterscapes.

So, out of these, which would you choose?

1.

2.

or

3.

I'm going to look through the rest of my photos sometime soon, but these three are the easiest to access.

Thanks for your input!

I like #'s 1 and 3, though I think 3 is my fav. Glad you're feeling a bit better. :)

I like choice 2 because you can see shadows in the frozen water. However I am no art critic!!

Number 2 is my favorite!

Two is my favourite, both regarding light and composition.

The other two are also wonderful, but contest-wise, I'd think the snow in #3 is a little over-exposed (very hard for the camera to get right, I know too well!) and there's a bit too much purple fringing in the branches, and with #1, it's perhaps a little too half-and-half (i.e. the dividing line's right in the middle) - which I don't mind, but some people frown at.

Not that I know what they'd be looking for in the contest, but with, presumably, there being many good pictures, tiny details might come to matter.

I agree with this.

Compositionally 2 has this lovely cuving line of the branch that draws your eye round the picture. ! and 3 are nice, but there are these straight lines that take your eye in and out of th epicture straight away.

#3 is my favorite by far. They are all nice, but the movement in the water is great - means it was a bit windy that day, I'd guess.

I like number 1 the best. I think the light is the best, plus of the three, it looks the most winter-ey with the thick blanket of snow on the log and the ice. It's a strong center to give a good first impression (which you need in a photo contest) that also rewards deeper viewing when you allow your eye to wander into the background.
