$1400? No. Make that $2100-$2400.

Timing belt needs replacing, too. Struts as well, but if those are over $300, we're living with the stupid struts as is.

I...

Blue book value of this car is about $3000 - $3600. There's no way we'll get as good a car for less than that. If the $1400 weren't already owed, I would just say screw it and sell the car, but it is owed at this point, so that isn't really an option.

Just... Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

I wish we lived where it was possible to not have a car. But we don't. We live in fucking suburbia in the fucking US of A that worships individualism (and personal convenience) over anything.

Worst bit is, though, that we could have planned for this. $50 a month for three years would have seen us through this little crisis with almost no worries. But... $50 a month couldn't be spared until very, very recently (and even then only guiltily). Not if we wanted to eat, take our meds and keep our credit rating decent.

Fuck.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Fuck.

I wish I knew a way to sell my art that wouldn't be a slap in the face to me. Of course, that would also require people (with money) liking my stuff.

I wish I had time and energy to research how to go about everything. I wish Geoff would look for a better paying job. I wish... so many things. And we'll see how we can up up with the cash.

And we will.

It's just so very discouraging.

Tax returns? I know how much this sucks. How something 'small' can be so huge and unassailably big.

FTR - if I ever have the money I think it's worth, I know exactly which painting(s) I'd buy.

if teh car is paid for and old and in good shape overall, its not uncommon to sink a couple grand of repairs. (although it sucks yes) This should get you a few more years out of the car. But its an indicator to start saving for a new one. Know I drive old beaters...but they are hondas. Every so many years it's a big repair bill, but it beats sinking alot more money for a new one. Since I dont drive to work anymore, the old beaters dont get that much wear. But you can also offset your costs by raising your auto deductable or looking at just going with minimal auto insurance. because you wont get the money from insurance if it's totaled anyway.

Indeed. Cars are expenses I resent, even if I do enjoy the freedom.

Yep, tax return. Having a cry about it and planning helped bring the panic under control, but...

Better now, but yeah. I hate car bills.

Yeah, I know, but it came at a bad time. It's a Toyota (99) and the mileage is low, so yes, we're paying the bill, but... I hate having to sink $1000 into the car every freaking year.
