darn computer
Jun. 12th, 2006 11:20 amThe computer died again this weekend. Very scary. This time it wasn't a drive (thank god, seeing as there's only 2 useable ones left), but the power supply. I think there was a power surge, though the fuse itself is fine. DH took it apart, removed a dust bunny or two, put it back together and tried it out, and voila! It worked again.
I don't think it's happy with us, though. Not that I blame it. Not only is it 12 years old (which is what in computer years... 210?) but it's been moved frequently over the last six years, fallen off one of the moving trucks (oops), had to deal with extreme heat, many power outages and other bothersome little things (like Babe thinking the power button is so much fun to push, repeatedly).
Anyway, I have determined that anything I write from now on will be saved onto a floppy every few hours of progress or so. Now to remember to do so.
I suppose this means I also need to get out of the habit of using Lotus Word Pro... not exactly widely used, is it (it's word processor, if you hadn't guessed)? And it won't be going into the new computer, whenever it arrives. Open office will have to suffice.
(Oh, and just so you know, everything I've written of chapter 8 has been either emailed to myself or to Sun for safe keeping. :)
ETA: Oh, and since it broke down yesterday, the computer has been making weird ticking noises now and again. Like the D drive did before it expired. Again. *sigh*
