So, my house stinks. (I think I might have mentioned that recently, but it bears repeating.) I have reached my tolerance limit and am now trying to eliminate the stench. One itty-bitty place at a time. Last week was the bathroom. This week is the linen closet.

Now see, I was thinking that the linen closet would be a one day job at most. After all, it's not big (18"x18"x7.5'). I figured that by taking everything out, rinsing everything washable, washing down the walls and placing a few things of bath salts and baking sodas strategically, it would smell hunky-dory in no time.

Turns out, I can't wash the walls. The only thing protecting the cardboard drywall (how many trees did they kill in the making of this house?) is a 40-year-old coat of primer. Soooo, tomorrow I will be painting the closet. Not today because it's late already and I have to go out in a couple of hours.

On the plus side, this is something I've been meaning to do since moving in 7+ years ago. It will make the closet look so very much better and cleaner. It will make it easier to clean in the future. It will mask (seal in) the nasty smell of decaying cardboard better than any washing could.

But, but, but... Bah. I had not anticipated the act of painting into my cleaning regime. Not this round, anyway. I do not love the smell of napalm paint in the morning, especially not the latex variety. And I don't love the prospect of having to deal with smell of paint in our sleeping area for the next week.

Meanwhile, I'm halfway through bleach-rinsing everything that was in the closet, and have nowhere to store it.

However, progress, at very least least, is being made. It's tiny and barely noticeable, but this is good. As long as I actually get around to making it, that is.
