Went to see Deathly Hallows with Geoff this afternoon. I actually enjoyed it in a good way. The other recent movies I've enjoyed, mostly, but in the it's-so-bad-I-love-it kinda way.
The animation sequence was probably the most beautiful, creative and engaging part of the movie. I want it. Just it.
The Ministry scene was disappointing, but more for the architecture than anything. Loved the kiss, however
The Phelps twins are pretty gorgeous, aren't they?
That snatcher dude was gorgeous, too, though his personality made him way too ugly for me. I wish it had been Greyback instead. Like it was supposed to be.
I liked the tent.
Bill Nighy (sp?) was not convincing as a grizzled warrior. He did not have the leonine aspect I imagined Scrimgeur to have. (And I love BN in the same way I love Christopher Walken. He's always a hoot, even when serious.)
Erm... On the whole, the movie was way too PG for my taste. They pushed it here and there, but really, they pushed it in the wrong places. However, judging by the gasps of the people behind us, I expect that American audiences, at least, are not willing to accept that the story is not a children's tale any more, but more a gritty war story. However, it would have been more interesting, and tense, had Greyback been the lead snatcher. It would have been more realistic had Bella killed the Snatchers right then and there. They didn't flinch from the Charity scene, they shouldn't have flinched from Hermione's torture.
(Also, the Malfoy manor was way too stark. Lucius is out to impress; there would be tapestries and rugs galore to amaze any visitors.)
(And also, that Dobby overlord speech? Please!
Dobby: *struts*
Potter and everyone else: *stand around looking awkward*
Griphook: Erm, should we be escaping now?
Potter: I think so, but I'm sure Dobby knows best...
*Multi person elf Apparition*
Potter: Or maybe not.
*tries valiantly to cry*)
I know I have more thoughts, but the movie wore me out. Sensory overload, ya'know. (I was verklempt in the opening sequence just because it was so loud and it was so overwhelming. I did adjust, but it took its toll.)
So, I'm off to bed.
