So, I was relatively light on the whole likes/dislikes thing in my prompt proper, so I'll try to expand on what I squee over in fic and art here.
Fic:
I like nice characters. Yes, there are some genuinely nasty people/characters out there, but I prefer focusing on the imperfect wonderfulness of being a decent human being. So yeah, no Ron bashing, or Harry bashing or anyone bashing, please. They are flawed but inherently decent people and I like them to remain flawed but inherently decent. Likable, even.
On that note, I don't like Hermione being attracted to or involved with Snape if he's a complete and total bastard. Hermione wouldn't stand for that, or at least not without VERY good reason. Reason as in logical, thinky-thought reason, not emotional "reasons". Snape being sarcastic, bitter and emotionally immature is not the same thing as being a complete and total bastard unless it's taken to the nth degree. Please don't take him there.
I also like intelligent characters, hence why I'm not signed up for the Crabbe/Goyle fest. Stupid people make me growl in real life and I'd rather avoid them in stories, too.
I can deal with angst (I like the original books, after all), but I like it to be balanced with humor. Look to the books - they're really quite funny.
Humor, however, does not need balancing unless it's for impact. (Almost all great comedy is rooted in fear or pain, after all. It's how we deal with it. Please help me deal?)
Anything else? Erm, I don't mind sex scenes, but I love plot much, much more than pr0n. Plot and characterizations. (And if you do include sex scenes, please keep them vanilla-based. I can deal with butter pecan, but that's about it.)
Art:
Okay, I'll be honest: I'm a snob. I am an artist myself, and I place high value on craftsmanship. No, I don't expect anything to be perfect (god knows none of my pieces come even close) (not to mention that stylistic differences render the concept of "perfection" very difficult to defend), but if you're going to do art for me, please invest time, effort and thought into it.
Because of that, photomanips aren't usually my thing. I have seen some done absolutely beautifully, but it was because the artists in question put a lot of time, effort and thought into them. It wasn't just a short-cut.
Now, if you're a beginning artist who's just been scared into thinking that you need to ask the mods to switch you to someone less scary - stop. I am not looking for a display of mad skillz. I can appreciate them, but I'm here to celebrate the grand ship Grape, not ogle the way you use chiaroscuro to incredible effect, or your lustrous imprimatura.
Give me your best effort by showing a little love for your art and I will be a very, very happy fangirl.
(But please no pr0n in the art. It just doesn't float my boat.)
To quote Ginny: Take me on an emotional journey and I'll be happy.
Thank you!
PS: In case you didn't read through the comments attached to my prompt, this is my fourth prompt. Sorry for the original bad link.
