I have recently been receiving more and more phone calls from customers of a bank that supposedly went out of business 15 years ago. I cannot find ANY information about them besides their wrongly listed number (MY number) online and their physical address. The city phone book doesn't even acknowledge their existence.

On my errands today, I will be going to their listed location and, if they actually do exist, haranguing someone until promises are made to never, EVER use my number again (this is not the first time).

In the meantime, I have written a review on one of their networking sites and written to the site managers, as well as every other site that's listed my number as theirs, to tell them to get the fucking listing changed.

I wonder if there's anything else I can do. Seeing as the business isn't actually in business, I can't exactly report them to the BBB, can I? And I've had my phone number for over 7 years now (over 8?). I'm not changing it if I don't have to.

My paranoid brain is pipping up saying something fishy could be going on here, but realistically, I doubt it. They were probably just too lazy to delete their littering of free listings on the web when they went defunct.

The problem are the businesses selling listings well over right years old - listings that include closed businesses, including the one that formerly had your phone number.

THOSE businesses can be reported. And should.

Ack! I hope the problem can be sorted somehow soon, and that you don't get any more of the calls.
