Life goes on

So, yesterday I told Page that I was going to be staying at my parents' place for a few days longer than him and his dad. This morning he woke up crying about a nightmare where I was gone for three years. (Fear of abandonment, anyone?)
I explained in as many ways as my tired brain could think of that I was going to be gone only a few extra days (one day more than the Aeternitas weekend), that it was to work on the mural there (a work trip and partial truth), that I would call every day and that he IS my home and heart, so I'm not going to be away for longer than that.
He seemed to accept that, but he's sticking very close to me today. Needing my attention every five seconds.
*sigh* It's Friday, isn't it?
Haven't been on here much because all of my effort has been going into writing Shelter. I'm almost at the end of chapter 22 (otherwise known as The Monster. It's over 8000 words so far), with only a scene to go, and then there's two chapters left. And it is definitely only two chapters left.*
In garden news, I have finally prepared the ground for some of the plants my neighbor gave me, and pretty much planned where they're going to go, though that's still open to modification. The yellow loosestrife will go beside the fence (behind the yellow rocket ligularia) and behind a clump-row of (native, tall, orange) daylilies with mums in front of them and whatever hostas, ferns and astilbes I decide to place back there. However, I won't be planting anything until after the giant rock by the fence has been removed. By Geoff.
Also, it seems that more ferns survived than I thought! Six lady ferns and five leatherwood with a mysterious one still unfurling. Probably a lady fern.
The rainy cool spring and summer has been awesome for all of my garden so far. In the veggie garden, I can't seem to pick enough lettuce to get rid of the stuff, which is a little bit obnoxious, as I want it gone so I can plant other stuff in that bed. Maybe this weekend...
We harvested the first handful of sugarsnap peas yesterday. Ooh boy, were they yummy. Since they're technically Page's, he got the majority of them, but he gave me a couple of them, and they were perfect.
The napa cabbage, however, seems to be a failure. It keeps wanting to bolt. I'll have to research how to grow it a bit more thoroughly. *sigh* However, the cucumbers and green beans (or zucchini... can't remember which) are growing gangbusters now, so hopefully they'll be ready to harvest after we get back.
Other updates? Page is in swimming lessons. He's a bit of a nervous nellie. Because of his nerves, he will not shut up during the lesson. Well, he'll be quiet while the teacher is talking, but otherwise he is goofing around, talking and generally being a nuisance. It's embarrassing, really. But he's six, so what do I expect?
Oh, and I've been bribing Page to exercise (run or bike) with the bait of extra minutes of Plants vs. Zombies. He earned an extra thirty minutes today by doing ten laps around our cul-de-sac (plus some), 12 sit-ups and 11 jumping jacks. I offered an hour if he did a full half-hour of running, along with ten push-ups and 10 jumping jacks. He decided half an hour of extra playtime was enough. ;-)
(The downside to this plan of mine is that I have had the music from Plants vs. Zombies in my head, constantly, for the last week. It's driving me just a leeeettle crazy.)
I walked along with him and managed to do 9 laps myself, with the final lap being a gentle jog. That plus the digging is probably all I should do for the day, however. Don't want to overdo it, even though I feel rather pathetic for the amount I've done. But, better to feel pathetic than feel another stupid injury!
*Actually, while I was waiting for Page to finish his swimming lesson, I was thinking about this chapter, and realizing that it is finished, and everything I was planning for the rest of this chapter needs to go into the next chapter. Which is both awesome and obnoxious, as that's a fair amount of writing that just got chopped. Ach well. It'll be better this way. I think.

Bollocks. Never mind. Wordy chapter will insist on being wordy.
