Well, Superstorm Sandy, aka Frankenstorm, has come and gone, and, as expected, we are fine up here. We actually did lose power for a couple of hours, which was inconvenient, but, well, that's all it was. A first world problem thang fo' sho, unlike what they're going through farther south.
However, ever since Sunday, my body has been very, very unhappy about the pressure changes. No headaches, aside from my inner ears freaking out, but oh my joints! And now that the storm has (basically) passed, I just want to crawl into bed and sleep for a week. That can't happen, of course, but I wish it could.
The stupid thing is my breathing is acting up again. And I'm really not sure whether it's asthma, bronchitis or immunological revolt of a different order. I'm tempted to go back to the doctor and ask what's up, but, well, I'm not that ill. My inhaler (and aleve) seems to be doing the trick, though I also seem to be sighing an awful lot. And yawning. Hey ho.
On the down side, Page woke up screaming with pain this morning (a very rare thing for our stoic dude), so he was shuffled off to the doctor by Geoff (leaving me to study for today's test, which went way better than last week's test, btw) to get antibiotics. Which were actually got this time 'round.
And then Geoff is feeling under the weather, too. I'm trying to sort through what's weather-related and what's genuine illness in all of us, but it's kinda difficult without patience. (And don't even mention the sorting through illness between bacterial and viral!)
I do think that z-pack didn't do squat for me, though. Except maybe kill off all the beneficial bacteria. I feel a UTI coming on, and I bet it's fungal. *scowls*
Right. Enough whinging.
Good things:
- Friends who let us invite ourselves over to mooch power and ovens. Last night was actually really pleasant for all of us.
- Amusing photoshopped images of the storm on facebook. A nice counterpoint to the horrible devastation.
- The internet. even when it does show the horrible devastation. It's nice to know what's going on and keep in touch while the weather's wild. *hugs the precious*
- (Selfishly:) The tree that fell at our friend's neighbor's house last night fell away from our car. I'm sorry the tree fell at all, especially as it fell on their neighbor's house, but, well, I'm glad our car didn't get crushed. And I'm glad that it looks like the damage to the house is minimal.
- The inhaler is keeping Page's cough in line (if given on schedule).
- Hot tea.
- No snow!
I really hope that the recovery from Sandy goes better than expected and that everything can be brought back to normal very, very soon. I also hope that everyone and theirs are safe and sound. And those of you still in Sandy's path, may you be safe and sound.
What a huge mother of a storm. My heart goes out to those suffering losses.
