Because there has to be something to panic about, right?

*shakes head* Yes, we're looking at a fairly sizable storm. Thing is, unlike the Snowtober storm, this is supposed to dump 12-24 inches of fluffy snow, not 18" of the normal heavy wet shit. Meaning, traveling will be foolhardy for a day and a half (or less), and then everything goes back to normal.

Woo. Hoo.

That said, I did go out and get a tent lamp and a couple of rechargeable glow sticks just in case the power does go out. I'm calling it storm insurance. The lack of light was the thing that bothered me the most about the last power outage. You can't really read by candlelight. Not comfortably, anyway.

However, with the assumption that the power is going to stay on, I also checked out a few movies from the library: "Kung Fu Panda", "The Muppet Christmas Carol" and "Amelie". Might as well take advantage of the power being on by secluding ourselves in the darkest room in the house, right? ;-)

In other news, I made a mean curry the other night. Yeah, I used bottled curry powder, but it's good curry powder (not just turmeric), and the curried veggies were nice and spicy. The mock chicken korma was also very, very tasty, considering it was completely off the cuff, and rushed to boot. Had the hour not been quite so late, I would have ground up some cashews to go into the spiced coconut milk. But I didn't, and it was still very nice.

In even more disparate news, I find my problem-solver/people-saving complex is trying to outweigh my conscience/social knowledge base. It seems a friend is losing her house to the bank. However, she hasn't admitted it (I snooped online), claiming she just doesn't like living there anymore. I'm pretty sure that's a lie based on previous conversations, but, well, if that's what she wants known, then who am I to suggest solutions? Because I can see a solution. It's on the verge of being outlandish, but it's doable with only a very minor financial hit to those who'd be helping.

But. No admitted problem means no helping. Right?

*sigh*

Damned health insurance system. How many people in this country have had to go bankrupt/lose their house just to cover the insurance premiums? Granted, since no problem's been admitted, there aren't details as to why, but I do know that as of a couple of years ago, she was paying ungodly amounts of money for insurance. And seeing as insurance rates have been increasing at about 24% a year... I think it's very possibly the reason.

I can't wait until October, when Obamacare goes into effect.

And in other somewhat disturbing news, there's a big white dot on the street directly in front of our house. Seems the gas company is going to be digging that up in the near future, as there is very possibly a leak. The other evening, Geoff and I did smell gas, but, well, it evaporated pretty quickly, and it didn't smell gassy in our house, so we didn't give it a second thought.

I will undoubtedly be annoyed to have the machinery digging up our street (and the noise that accompanies it), but I will also be relieved when they get it done, and I can be assured that our street is not going to blow up, destroying our house with it. (Seeing as they haven't been back since Sunday, I'm thinking it's not a big leak, or a big risk.)

Aaaaaaand... I need to get to my homework now. I've done a very good job of putting it off, but I can't wait any longer.
