I'm slow. I've only just figured out why I love fall so dearly, besides the obvious drop in temperatures and humidity that is. Have I ever mentioned that sunset is my favorite time of day?

As I said: slow.

Here are the pictures I've taken in the last week. It isn't really peak season yet here, probably won't be for another week or so. Maybe even two.

Next up: The pics taken a week before Babe's birth, 2004. A very good year, "foilage" wise.

Gorgeous! I miss watching the leaves turn...that's one of my favorite things about fall...

This is definitely a much better foliage season than last year. Are those by your house? If so, I'm jealous. The leaves on the trees around my house just turn brown.

It's really only up in the mountains that we get fall colors in SoCal. The rest of the deciduous trees get confused and turn brown- I'm convinced that it's out of sheer confusion. I suppose that this is the reason we have so many evergreens, palms, and odd succulents here. :) At least we still have cooler weather, Oktoberfest, and football to remind us what time of year it is!

Yes. It's nice living in a place where they do turn, and the weather doesn't chase them off the trees before their time. Colorado always gets a cold snap or a major snow dump just as the leaves are about to turn.

It's looking like it'll be a good year again. Last year was pretty ho-hum. The burning bushes aren't crimson yet. It's always nice to see them glowing against the rusty bronze of the oaks. :-)

Yeah, the redish ones are right behind my house, and the others are on my block. Don't you have a maple? I thought all maples, even norways, had good color.

Well, at least you don't have to travel too far to get good color. I think they've found (I'm digging this out of the back recesses of my memory, so it might be completely made up and I wouldn't know) that the trees need specific temperature and light requirements to change in a colorful way.

I wonder... do they have Oktoberfest in the Southern hemisphere?

Wherever there are Germans, there is Oktoberfest. It's like Aussie Christmas cards that show people at the beach- adjustments are made :D Still, I wonder if they celebrate the planting rather than the harvest, or if they have green all over everything instead of orange.

Curiouser and curiouser!

I actually hadn't thought about and just assumed poor soil and/or sunlight conditions were the culprit. When I looked it up, I found that apparently they mostly turn pale yellow in the fall. So in addition to being a pest, they are not a very showy tree.
