I think I am beginning to wake up. Seeing as I've been out of bed for the last five hours, I'm viewing this with a fair share of surprise. I had lost hope for the day.
Of course, this means that I need to start in on my homework now rather than later, but, well, needs must. It's either that or vacuum out the computer, and really, cleaning doesn't need wakefulness. Well, not really, anyway. Not that I now know not to remove the CPU. ahem.
ION, Geoff and I are now in season 3 of syfy's BSG. It's good, but, damn, it's pretty grueling. And the cylons have me completely mystified as to their reasoning. They keep choosing the human way of doing things, even when it's not rational, with their rationale being that they need to do it that way to survive. I'm not sure if it's bad writing (which seems unlikely due to generally good character development, thoughtful dialogue, careful plotting and overarching themes) or foreshadowing. If it turns out it's all been a dream, I'm going to be royally pissed off.
We've been so involved in BSG, however, that we haven't been watching our regular shows, including the newest Sherlock or Downton Abbeys! We will get there, but, well, this saga is closer to hand than those sagas. ;-)
Weather is chilly, but not that cold. At least not while the sun is shining. Supposedly it's 19F (-7C) with a wind chill of +6F (which is the high temp for the day, btw), but it feels closer to 30 or 35. Granted, I don't leave the house unless I'm dressed properly. But even so, I forgot to put on a sweatshirt over my turtleneck today, and I was just fine. (I did have my warm coat on, however.)
Last night Geoff and I attended an information meeting for a new charter school that's opening up in our town this fall which will serve grades k-4 the first year, with an expansion to k-8 by 2016. It sounds pretty damn awesome. If they manage to run it as they wish, it would be a perfect (perfect) fit for Page. So, here's hoping he gets in! (It also has a start time of 9:00am! OMG, PLEASE, PLEASE LET PAGE GET IN!!!)
What's also cool is that one of my (unemployed) friends is also a perfect fit as a teacher at that school! She has just about everything they were saying they were looking for, including the enthusiasm. So here's hoping on another front, because I know her family could really use another income!
What else... Part by part, we're replacing our computer. Yesterday afternoon I went out and got a new graphics card and today I went out and got a $25 price-match refund on that card. I hope the new card will help out. I also hope that it will give the power supply another year or so. (If not, at least it won't require a monster of a new power supply.)
I don't know whether or not to hope that the problem isn't the monitor, though. Monetarily, I hope it's not, but, well... I sure do covet a new (or newish), widescreen monitor. But, if we do need a new monitor, we probably will get a $25 replacement rather than something I/we really want. Because, yeah. We're adults. Dammit. ;-)
And soonish, we'll probably have to replace our printer. Not only is it kinda crappy (albeit a sturdy kind of crappy; it's going on thirteen years old!), I think they're starting to phase out the inks for it. And a printer without ink is about as useful as a stereo without a receiver.
Heh. Totting everything computer-related that I want/need in the next year or two, I'm thinking I'd better go do my homework so I can get a job closer to a year from now rather than 18 months. Modern life is expensive.
Hope you all are well, as are your families.
