It's snowing. There's supposed to be a Nor'easter on Sunday. It feels so much like Colorado. Unfortunately, this is the part of Colorado I really don't like. I want SPRING, dammit! Or at least have the weather make up its damn mind. Although, hopefully it'll get cold enough to kill the early crop of mosquitos that have already hatched.
Last night's supper was incredibly satisfying. Crispy, crispy baked potato skins (and the innards, but they're rather bland) with reheated borscht stew from the freezer. Oh. My. God was that perfect, even if it did take a half hour longer to cook the potato than expected.
Now I just have to figure out what to have for supper tonight. And figure out what Babe will eat. Grr.
Also, I'm getting closer to the end of a new fic. It's short (it might even make it under 10,000) and it isn't even terribly angsty (although if you read the last section I wrote you wouldn't know it)! Severus is a bit out of character, but not only are there mitigating circumstances, but it's all in good fun. I hope to have it ready to go to Sun at least a week before the deadline. Oh, yeah, it's a Potter Place Prompt story, though I'm not telling which one. :-)
As a quick question, this is going to be a very mild fic, and so far would rate about PG except for a couple naughty words. Should I still rate it PG? It's not like the f-bomb is dropped every other word. In fact, I think I've only used it once.
Anything else? Not really. I hope to watch "Dumbo" with Babe today. I haven't seen that for years and years and years.
Oh! And my library is awesome! They have Ranma1/2!!! Another something I haven't watched in years and years and years!

Date: 2007-04-12 05:34 pm (UTC)Personally, I rate higher than necessary for most things. My reasoning is that I look at my 12 year old son and think 'would I like him to read this?' Even a lot of the PG-13 stuff I'd like to keep him away from, but that's the real reason that I rate higher than necessary.
But as I get older I keep watching how the standards have changed in film. Things that would've been 'R' when I was a kid are now 'PG-13'. Or the writer/director/editor would've edited it out or filmed it more dramatically so that the implications were still there without the crass language and constant 'sexual situations' or blatantly 'implied sexual situations'. *shrugs*

Date: 2007-04-13 02:43 am (UTC)I normally rate higher than necessary as well ("Marry A Choice" really didn't need to be an M, but it felt safer that way), but this story is sooo mild... If it weren't for that one word and the topic of incest (not what it seems) I would rate it G. Okay, maybe not, but it is quite mild.
I don't mind the laxity where 'sexual situations' are concerned (to an extent, anyway), but the level of violence... "Passion" should have been rated NC-17 in my opinion, not to mention the casual violence both in word and deed that permeateds tv. I sound like a prude, don't I? LOL. Ach well.

Date: 2007-04-12 06:23 pm (UTC)We had spring, then we had a deep freeze over the weekend. The flowers on the azaleas all froze, the dogwood flowers all turned brown, and the new leaves on the crepe myrtle look like brown crepe paper. And the temperature is still about what we'd expect in early March. Weird, weird weather...

Date: 2007-04-13 02:46 am (UTC)There's a shift in the atmosphere causing all this weirdness, but I can't remember what the wave pattern is called. It's not very nice, though, isit?

Date: 2007-04-12 10:06 pm (UTC)Dumbo was Sam's (my youngest godbrother, now 14) favorite film when he was about Babe's age. He watched it over and over again. It eventually dawned on me that he really identified with Dumbo who is lost in a very confusing world and *does not have the ability to communicate.* After he learned to talk, he lost interest in the film. (Moving on to Gumby and Peter Pan as I recall.)
