First, I'd like to mention that my scabiosa, which was looking like it had a week to go before it bloomed for the very first time, was broken off. Smashed to the ground. Sundered. I am less than pleased. I do not want to have to resort to those 2' high wire fences to protect my garden. They're ugly and tacky and I'd much prefer it if the kids (including my own) would just keep. off. the. bloody. garden.

Not pleased at all.

Second, I'm also not pleased about the picture behind the cut. I've decided that there are so many things inherently wrong with it that I'm not going to bother finishing it more than I already have. What bothers me about this failure is that I really like Snape's face. That and I've put an awful lot of hours into this and only in the last couple days have I realized that no matter how much I work on Hermione's face to make it look halfway decent, the picture is still buggered due to other (numerous) factors.

This doesn't please me, either.

It also doesn't please me that I can't manipulate the GIMP into doing exactly what I want it to do, which means I'm actually going to have to ready up on it. Fortunately, it looks like there are tutorials outside of the incredibly, miserably, horribly written "help" menu provided by the GIMP. Thank goodness for small mercies.

Ah, but thanks to [livejournal.com profile] keladry_lupin, I managed to think of something:

I think I'm going to go have a chocolate cookie and go soak my head. Or similar.

Aww, i kind of like it. I really do agree with you on Snape's face. The only thing I notice because you 'had' me look at it closely is her hair... which seems like its where you gave up on things.

I don't think thta you should completely abandon it -- I bet if you read up on GIMP you could salvage and improve it!

*cheers you on!*

Okay, I've been there and done that with having put lots of effort into something only to have it STILL not cooperate, so I understand. But quite frankly, I think it's gorgeous as-is. All that black and the stuff that's blurry give it a dreamlike quality, with the only thing in focus being their faces. I could look at this for hours.

*sends more cookies and a sympathetic hug*

Its a difficult picture isn't it... their positioning raises too many questions as to where their centres of gravity must be and what they were doing to put their centres of gravity there in the first place, and you haven't included anything beyond their upper bodies to answer those questions.

But you are right that his face is lovely.
