I think I might be tired.

I misread this headline:

IAEA says North Korea has shut reactor

as

IKEA says North Korea has shut reactor

For a moment there I was afraid I'd been shopping at the wrong place.

I know I'm tired...I read that first line as "I think I might be FIRED." I thought, "Noooooo!"

Hee hee! I was once told that this happens because our brains use "chunking" to take in sentences, and these sorts of mistakes occur when our brains chunk groups of letters incorrectly. I prefer to think of them as brain puns. And that doesn't even take into consideration headlines like the following:

Prostitutes Appeal to Pope
Stud Tires Out
British Left Waffles on Falkland Islands

Yeah, chunking makes sense, but I agree that it's our brains just punning around. They do that, especially when we're not paying attention, like in dreams.

Those are... what wedre the journalists (or editors) thinking?! LOL.
