=) and What not to write

Happy Thanksgiving!
We were supposed to go up to Maine with friends, but when we woke up we were greeted by the oh-so-lovely sight of snow.
You know, it wasn't that long ago when I reacted to the first snowfall of the season with "Ooh, look! Snow!" My reaction this morning? "Eeeew!" I think it has something to do with the eight feet of snow we got that first winter here, and how it didn't disappear for five months. Literally. It was interesting (if depressing) watching the mountain of snow from our apartment window grow as winter wore on, but it was also interesting to watch it melt in Spring, and see all the different layers reveal themselves by the dirt plowed with the snow. It was kind of like a transient geological survey, only white(ish).
So, anyway, I discovered that I like big dumps of snow that disappear quickly. I would miss snow if we ever moved to Australia, or the Sahara, but I have absolutely no joy of seeing it lie on the ground for months at a time. All the first snowfall means is that fall is really truly gone, and that's very sad.
But, the irony is that as soon as we decided that it would be better all around if we didn't go North, the sun came out.
Figures.

As for the subject line...
Okay, so I'm working on the smut again, and I came up with this line (as S&H finally consumate their relationship)...
She felt his flesh blend with hers as he tried to fill the hole left by Ron.
Kinda ruins any romanitc mood, don't you think? =)
No, I don't think that it's going to be in the final version, but it was too funny not to share.
I'm having a very difficult time taking this at all seriously. I'm afraid it shows.
Ach well.
Hope you all have a happy holiday (if it's a holiday for you)!
Snape's Journal

Minerva came to see me today. She had the gall to bring up Granger in conversation, mentioning how poorly she looked, and how she seemed to be pining.
I believe I was the one who pointed that out.
Anyway, she wanted advice on what to tell Granger's parents. Minerva thinks that withdrawing her from school would result in a total breakdown.
I privately agreed. Hogwarts is Miss Granger's home, and has been for the better part of six years now. She has the library to search, the halls to roam and her friends to talk to. Taking her away from the support system she's built up would be catastrophic.
Then I did something very odd. I told Minerva I agreed.
I know I tell Minerva most things, but to actually agree with her that one of the Dream Team should remain at Hogwarts when there's a clear case for removal... I wonder if I'm falling ill.

Date: 2005-11-25 12:35 am (UTC)I have no idea how much snow my home town got annually, but it was a fair amount. The thing was, it was rare for the snow to ever last more than two days. Very frequently it would snow 1-2 feet with blizzard-like conditions and the next day it would be sunny, beautiful and 70 degrees. I once got a really nasty sunburn making a snow castle in May from the previous day's 2.5 foot dump. By the time my friends and I had finished the castle, (with one turret and one rampart) the rest of the field was green.
I've only just realized what a beautiful thing that kind of climate is. Snow, without the hassle.

Oh, and the wet part isn't that bad. It's the frostbite that's bad.
