Oh, and quick PSA from elbales: If you see a "Career Cruising" meme going around, please don't participate or pass it on. It's not a free quiz--it's on a pay site, and by using whoever's login/password it is, you're going to get them into a huge amount of trouble. As wendymr has pointed out, it's a site for professional career counselors and their clients, and my suspicion is that one of those clients leaked the password, probably to their friends, and it went wild from there. So, you know, for the sake of this poor counselor, please tell people to delete or lock their meme entries or not participate at all. I don't know if the counselor can change his/her password, either.

*is sheepish*

Sorry if that's the case.

ETA: Actually, I knew going into it that it was a pay site. Thing is, I thought it was a pay lump-sum type thing, and, looking into it, I see that's the case. My first cynical thought as I went to check it out was that someone wasn't happy with what they paid for, and were out for revenge, internetz style.

What I also see is that they offer a one month free trial, which is almost certainly the case of the whole meme thing. (Everyone knows not to use a real word as a password!) So... I suppose it is still technically stealing, but at the same time, it is also, as [livejournal.com profile] zalena pointed out, possibly very shrewd advertising on Career Cruising's part.

I don't feel so bad anymore, anyway. Thanks.

Presumambly the site a) knows who's leaked the password and b) can yank access to that password anytime they want

So I wouldn't waste time feeling bad. Whoever left the note is only speculating as to what the site might be, and for all we know we've fallen prey to viral marketing.

I'm not posting or spreading it, but I don't think that test was anything a professional job counselor would use. JMHO

I certainly hope not!

I would hope not, and, well, looking at the site, it is mostly aimed at schools, like high schools and such where they don't have money to hire qualified counselors. And, for that purpose, I think it works. For a real professional, though? Nah. You're right.

OK I hope you don't mine but I stole your ETA and posted it in a comment to [livejournal.com profile] a_bees_buzz's post about this...

Lemme know if you mind!
