Ding dong, the witch is dead.
May. 2nd, 2011 09:22 amSo they killed Osama, did they? In an illegal, covert mission that probably included yet another unethical raid, the kind that have been aggravating and insulting a well-placed and iffy ally while we spend trillions and trillions of dollars on two very questionable wars that have destroyed hundreds of thousands of lives and our entire economy.
Yeah. I'm celebrating.
"Above all, bin Laden's death is a repudiation, to some degree, of the radical narrative he had sought to sell to his sympathizers around the world: that by launching a long, draining war on many fronts, he would weaken America just as the mujahedeen in Afghanistan did to the Soviet Union. For many years, as the United States launched one war after another and suffered a financial and economic crisis, that nightmarish vision appeared to be coming true. But now we know that bin Laden won't live to see it succeed."(*)
Cold comfort, indeed.
But yes, let's celebrate the public rape of our supposed ideals while his followers gain strength from his martyrdom.
