Busy days ahead

Today we really started our Christmas preparations.
Yes, we're slackers. It's better this way.
Anyway, my mum did lots of cleaning, we put up lights around both front rooms' windows and then baked. Chinese Chews. Lots of 'em. Yum. Had to put them away in the pantry so we didn't finish them off right then. (And while I was finishing up the chinese chews, my mum went and made gingerbread for dessert. So as to get a bit more of a Christmas vibe in the air, you know.)
While my mum was cleaning, I went out to the shed and painted picture frames. Three frames need new colors to fit into their new locations. Fortunately, my parents have all the colors required, so it's just a matter of finishing yet another project. Considering I'm on the third coat on all the frames (two are going to be silver rubbed with black stain while the other will be a plain off-white... assuming the green of the fake gold under the primer doesn't leak through. If it does, then it will be off-white with a black stain band where the gold was), it looks like I may just finish this project.
Thing is, Geoff and I are going to Vancouver on Boxing Day for two days, so if I don't get it finished before we leave, there is the very real possibility that I may be leaving it unfinished. Especially because there's still the bonus room to prime, paint the ceiling, glaze the walls, sand spots of the ceiling and adorn those spots. That order. But since I haven't even started that, I can put it off until we're back from Vancouver. If my dad doesn't get too antsy tomorrow. :-)
I'm kind of looking forward to the Vancouver trip, but kind of not. It's going to be a hassle getting there and back, as we'll be car-less, but at the same time, we're going to Vancouver. Alone. Without Babe.
*me being happy*
Unfortunately, it isn't exactly going to be a honeymoon situation as we're going there to get bodywork done. The both of us. I wanted to transfer my appointments to Geoff, but when I talked to the bodyworker, I was slightly out of breath (a combination of nervousness, exertion and, well, whatever) and she really didn't like the idea of me not getting work done, so she rearranged her local patients so that Geoff and I could both see her on the same days. Very cool.
The technique she uses is supposed to be something almost miraculous in that it heals and releases trauma. Old trauma, new trauma, physical, emotional and mental... And that's why I'm kind of dreading this coming trip. Healing means dealing with it, and dealing with trauma is painful. And considering I have no idea what's going to come up for either of us, it could very well be the "torture sessions" that Geoff is calling them.
He is such an optimist.
So, we have a hotel room in Vancouver for the nights of the 26th and 27th, and come back here on the evening of the 28th for a couple days, then go back down on the 30th for our eeeeearly appointments on New Year's Eve. Then come back in time to celebrate the New Year with the family.
It's the first time we'll be leaving Babe alone overnight. I'm kind of nervous about it, but mostly not. He really likes his Nana and Papa, and he has lots and lots of things to do here so it shouldn't be too much of an issue.
While we're in Vancouver, I'm going to get to go to an art supply store. I real art supply store. :-D My sister is giving me a gift certificate for art supplies while I'm here, so that I can paint, paint, paint. But do you know how long it's been since I've been to an art supply store? I think it's been five years. I do believe the last time I got to a real art supply store was when I was still going to school in Chicago. It's probably a good thing where our finances are concerned (even with self-control, I tend to... splurge), but oh! I miss looking at all the really cool supplies they have out there for all sort of truly nifty techniques and media that I would love to learn how to do. *sigh*
Of course, fabric shops have sort of filled the art supply store void, so I haven't been pining or anything. Quite. But I'm still excited.
But that's just me being verbose.
The point of this post was to wish all and sundry a Wonderful, Merry and Joyous holiday filled with love, laughter and lots of good food.
Be well.
Cheers,
Avery
Oh, and I think it was
rosedemon who had this meme, but my favorite Christmas Carol is probably "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," although I'll admit that "I'll Be Home for Christmas" always chokes me up, especially when sung by someone like Bing Crosby. And "Carol of the Bells" is one of the most awesome songs ever. Especially to sing in a big choir-like situation.
Anyway, Merry Christmas, ya'll!
