Looooong day. Super-crabby Babe for the majority of it. Very, very tired and cranky mom by the end of it. For once I had absolutely no complaints about Geoff falling asleep with Babe, as that got me guilt-free alone time.

And guess what I did during said alone time? I actually got out the sketch pad and... sketched! First time in a loooooong time. Since November, I think. Maybe early December.

Anyway, here's the result. Not great, but it's something, at least.

Beautiful. How long did that take you to do. I am awed by anyone that can draw, as I can't even draw a proper stick figure.

Love Sonia :)

Thank you! I actually have no idea how long it took, but I'm guessing within an hour or so.

Oh, I'm sure you could draw a proper stick figure. That's what rulers are for! :-D

I like it, particularly the eyes. The fall of shadow is good, too, particularly round the jaw and chin..

Somehow the teeth need to be positioned more behind the top lip as currently they're on the same plane - but how to do this, I don't know. It's not something I've ever succeeded at. I'd be happy if I could draw this well.

See, and I think the chin is a bit messed up, though I am pleased with the eyes. You're right about the teeth. I think I need to add another level of shadow. Meaning: I think I know what I need to do now that I see it as well. So thank you!

*heaves huge sigh of relief*

I'm so glad you weren't upset by the criticism. I was very hesitant about saying anything negative - one never knows how it's going to be taken.

Will you post the sketch again when you've tinkered? I'd love to see how you deal with the teeth.

No, not upset at all! Actually, it is far harder for me to accept praise than criticism. Not that I don't like the praise, mind you (gimme gimme gimme!), it's just that it makes me feel all squirmy and uncomfortable when trying to think of something to say in response. ("Aw, shucks," comes to mind... and then people think they're being mocked, when it's actually genuine.)

Whereas constructive crit makes me and my work better. Easy. (Well, except for 'real' critiques which can get pretty harsh.)

Perhaps. It depends on whether I get back to that sketch or not. I might just try again with a new sketch. One with a mind towards composition, as well as study.
