Excuses, excuses...
Feb. 9th, 2008 11:30 pmErgh. Didn't get anything written today, but that's because there really wasn't any time (and I'm too tired now). But. I did do the taxes. And considering they were a touch more complicated than most years', I am pleased with myself for having finished.
My addition and subtraction skills have waned substantially, though. It's most disturbing.
After taxes, Geoff, Babe and I hustled off to the church for a "Thank you for being an RE teacher!" pizza dinner and game night. Geoff isn't actually teaching this semester, but he's volunteered to be on-call if they should need him again. :-)
At the dinner, we were introduced to a nifty game called Blockus or some-such. It's like tetris, only not. Um... the challenge of the game is to use all your pieces (and no two are shaped the same), yet they cannot touch on the sides, but they do need to connect at the corners. It looked very cool and quite challenging. And fun.
On a weird note, I woke up absurdly early this morning with a very sore throat. I got up to get a drink, and about three swallows later, I swallowed the soreness. It wasn't that it eased with the moisture. One gulp, it was there, next gulp it was gone. I have never experienced that before. Fortunately, it seems that whatever it was that was making my throat sore is gone. It's been a bit scratchy, but not nearly as painful.
However, I most definitely have a cold. I am sneezing and snotting like crazy. Blergh. The cold probably is also the reason I have been absolutely frigid lately. Right now I am wearing my jeans, heaviest warmest socks, slippers, undershirt, long-sleeved shirt, mid-weight sweater, long fuzzy scarf (wrapped around neck twice and stuffed inside sweater), and my roasty, fleece-lined dressing robe. And I'm still nippy. I suppose if I put on a hat, I'd warm up right quick, but that seems ridiculous. Well, more ridiculous, anyway.
Oh, and it's not cold in here. This is all me and my whacked-out thermoregulatory system. Silly bugger of a system.
Unfortunately, Babe has the cold as well, and Geoff is also feeling unwell. Walking pneumonia has been going around his work like the plague, so I shall be careful to moniter both my own and Babe's coughs. And if they get worse, that's just another reason to call the doctor on Monday.
*sigh*
I know it was mentioned a while ago that perhaps I should get a glucose test done, but, well... It seemed unnecessary. But...
The other day (this week), about an hour after I'd eaten a full, complete, healthy meal (meatloaf, peas and white comfort food, with a small side of salad), I had a bowl of ice cream. Half an hour after I'd eaten the ice cream, I basically passed out. (Nodded off in my chair at computer, then dragged myself over to collapse on couch for a good half hour, being only barely responsive when Babe stood over me making noise for twenty minutes or so.)
That's not good, is it?
*sigh*
I have been cutting back on the sugar consumption. I have. And perhaps it has nothing to do with my blood sugar levels. Perhaps it was just the first sign of this cold. And yes, I know that sounds like I'm deep in denial... which is why, come Monday, I will call the doctor to get an appointment to get tested. That and find out what's happening with the echo and also maybe ask about a referral to an allergist.
The funny thing about the recent crash is that it reminds me an awful lot about how I react to alcohol. I can drink three shots of tequila without feeling a thing if I've had nothing else to eat or drink. Honestly. It won't affect me. (Hard liquor only. Yeasty drinks are separate matter.) If I have food in me, though? One shot will wipe me out unless taken over time with lots of water in-between sips. But, doesn't it work the other way 'round for most folk? Empty stomach = easily drunk?
I don't know. I don't understand myself at all.

Date: 2008-02-10 08:42 am (UTC)Sorry to hear that everybody's unwell. It's such a bugger when that happens, especially as you don't get to look after yourself properly because you have to look after everyone else.... Is there anyone you could entrus Babe to in the afternoons for the next three days, so you can get some quality afternoon naps? It sounds as though you are running on empty, and that's not good. (I know.)

Date: 2008-02-11 11:27 pm (UTC)Unfortunately, no, not really, but the nice thing about Babe being sick is that he becomes quite mellow. Heck, today he even let me sleep in!

Date: 2008-02-11 11:32 pm (UTC)I think that Babe, Geoff and I all have the same thing, and I think that it's one of the bugs that's going around. I doubt there would be a way to avoid it, anyway.
Yeah. I expect they won't find anything amiss, because my body is like that ("oh, you're getting tests done today? Well, I need to be on my best behavior, then!"), but then again, that's the best result, isn't it?
