Fangirly thoughts
Feb. 15th, 2008 10:46 amSo I went to bed last night thinking about LOST. I know that it is something like THE archetypal male fantasy, but you know, they obviously know what to add for the girls (besides fabulous plotting, that is). The moment that really struck me for that was when Desmond appeared with Juliet, his veeeery nicely tanned chest peeking out of that shirt, and his hair oh-so-perfectly mussed... mmm.
I always like the Sayid episodes. Even when he was with Shannon. But last night... Um, wow. How perfect. How utterly and completely messed up and perfect!
And then whenSnapeSawyer showed that tiny, itsy-bitsy hint of vulnerability? *swoon*
Which brought to mind a tangent about the difference between the bad boys and the bad men of fiction. Ben is a bad, bad man. He is not sexy. He is not appealing in the least. He is scary.SnapeSawyer? He's a bad boy. He is sexy. Very, verrry sexy. And the reason? There's that glint of hope of redemption in there. It's not realistic perhaps, but oh, how we want to see him redeemed!
And along the same tangent, I realized that the one "sexy" male I'm not into (and never have been) on that show is Jack. And the reason is because he's a good boy. Not a good man, but a good boy. And slowly but surely he's getting corrupted. The good boys always seem doomed to corruption, and, because they're good boys, they lose themselves in the process. They don't get the edge that bad boys have, though. They just lose their virtue, lose their core. Go limp. Now, if the show goes on long enough to show him recovering, finding his core again, then he will grow into a good man, and good men are hot. Maybe not glamorous, but hot all the same. They've been through hell and survived, and survivors are where it's at.
Anyway, this show is so completely messed up, and I so completely love it.
