I hate buying shoes, whether they are for me or for my kids. The only time my kids have ever have name brand shoes is when they were on clearance for a killer deal. The average amount that I spend on shoes for little kids is $9-$15. They outgrow them so quickly, how can someone afford to spend more than that?
However, I live in a rather 'well-off' area. Most of the women that I used to hang out with who had small children as well, would spend ridiculous amounts of money on their kids' clothes, shoes, etc. Nice and all, but never made any sense to me.
Okay, I'm not the only one, then! I hate shoe shopping, too (though I do appreciate a pretty pair of shoes). Trying to find shoes for under $15 nowadays is pretty tough, at least out here it is.
I don't get it, either. While I appreciate new clothes as presents and such, I much prefer either off-brand or second hand clothes. Shoes I like new, but otherwise... Why spend more than you have to for nice stuff? It's not like 3-year-olds understand or appreciate fashion!
I pretty much went with the house brands at Target, Walmart, etc, and usually still do. My son is extremely hard on shoes, and the expensive name brands don't hold up enough longer to justify the price; if they did, he'd probably outgrow them, anyway.
You do have to look around to find something that seems to be comfortable, however. A lot of shoes are so stiff I don't see how a child could walk in them, much less run.
Same here. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't just being stingy to hate paying more than $20 for a pair of shoes.
Yeah, I've dismissed many a cheap pair of shoes because they seem like they'd be terribly uncomfortable. And what's the point of buying any clothing if it's not going to be worn?
Oh, it'll be nearly a year before you really need to buy her shoes! Maybe the occasional pair to dress her up now and again, but not for real use. (And, trust me, they won't stay on her feet for very long!) But those little-bitty baby shoes are just SO cute, it's hard not to frivol money away on them. :-)
Agrees with ginny_weasley31 and muggle_prof. I'm not sure my boys have ever owned shoes that I've paid full price for, except for Target or Walmart brand. As son1 is older now, I've had to compromise because as his feet get bigger the shoes tend to cost more. Name brand are only bought on clearance and definitley have to be a great deal. For instance, I just bought size 4 Skechers at Kohl's for $17.99.
That's how I feel. I refuse to pay over $20 for shoes that won't last for more than a few months. It just seems wasteful. Hmm... have to remember Kohl's. For some reason, I just never think of them when shoe shopping for Babe. Usually I go to Building 19 to see what they have in stock. Lately it's been pretty slim pickings, though.
$35 isn't too bad for two pair, but $50, IMO, is getting rather steep. And yet, I think some women buy $35 p/pair shoes for their kids. And call them reasonably priced. They live in a different world than me, I guess. ;-)
