So, I went swimming for the first time in years today. The water was really quite chilly, but the surprising thing was finding that as long as some portion of my torso was exposed to the (hot, humid, icky) air, it was tolerable.
I still didn't last long, though. But I wasn't the only one who was getting blue, either! (Several of the children had blue lips by the time they got out.)
It was fun, though. Socialized with a couple of people I want to get to know better (oh, who am I kidding, I want to know just about everyone better!), the watermelon we brought was a hit and Babe got to socialize with lots of kids, and didn't almost drown doing it.
And then we came home, I made a wicked egg salad (not-so lean, very mean, sinus-draining salad machine... I added a bit too much mustard powder. =), and then I crashed for a couple of hours on the couch.
And then, when I woke up, I went down to the cool of the basement and watched "Some Like It Hot" for the first time in years.
God, I love that movie.
I wasn't quite sure which movie I wanted to watch, although I had narrowed it down to three: "Some", "Pride and Prejudice (2000)" or "Bride and Prejudice." I wanted a silly movie, and all three fit the bill, although "P&P" for less honorable reasons.
I did want to watch "P&P", though, if only to scour my brain of a fic I read the other day. It wasn't absolutely horrible (although, well before midway, I was reading it for the amusement factor; anachronisms can be fun!), but I must say that I am used to reading much, much better quality fics in the Good Ship Grape section of fandom. Although, to be fair, we have as many (or more) clunkers as the rest of fanfiction.
And now it's bedtime. And it's hot. And sticky. And I'm wondering if we should move the coffee table out of the way and set up the air mattress in the path of the air conditioner... :P
Anyway, that was my day. I'm sure you all were dying to know. ;-)
