Writing meme
Jul. 3rd, 2008 10:04 amWhat's the last thing you wrote?
737 words of a silly one-shot, not yet complete.
Was it any good?
Bits and pieces amuse me, but that's not saying much.
What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
Some grade school poetry, I imagine.
Write poetry?
I try not to. But sometimes it will insist on coming out.
Angsty poetry?
Oh hell, yes. Horrible stuff.
Most fun character you ever wrote?
Circe
Most annoying character you ever wrote?
Marry a Choice's Hermione, judging by the reviews. ;-)
Best plot you ever wrote?
Traitor.
Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
I have no idea. Under My Thumb continues to amuse me, while I think that the darker version of Against the Wall also is neat...
How often do you get writer's block?
When don't I nowadays? Near the end of a story it gets much worse.
How do you fix it?
I don't know. Sometimes it fixes itself, sometimes I just focus on the story and let my daydreams do the work for me, and sometimes I just have to write three thousand words of crap to get the juices flowing again. And sometimes, it doesn't get fixed.
Do you save everything you write?
For the most part, yes.
Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
Yes, although that doesn't mean I'll progress much on the idea.
What's your favourite thing that you've written?
While I'm not wholly satisfied with it, 25 Dates was the most fun to write. Miles and Miles will always have a tender place in my heart, but I think that Perry the Pusillanimous Spider (original poetry) is probably my favorite public piece.
What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
I'm guessing She Married Her Choice.
Do you ever show people your work?
Sometimes. Geoff is far more candid about my writing than I am.
Who's your favourite constructive critic?
Um... Well, I do love my betas,
southernwitch69 and
keladry_lupin...
Did you ever write a novel?
Fanfic novels, yes.
Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
I'll say yes.
Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
*falls over laughing* Yes. (Oh, and how often does teen angsty drama not involve romance, btw?)
What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Mystery. I love reading them, though.
How many writing projects are you working on right now?
Um... too many for comfort.
Do you want to write for a living?
NO!
Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
For the non-school endorsed high school newspaper.
Have you ever won an award for your writing?
One or two fandom awards.
Ever written something in script or play format?
No
What is your favourite word?
Serendipitous
Do you ever write based on yourself?
Yes. That's what this journal is for, oui? ;-) But besides that, yes, I do use my experiences and outlooks and, to some degree, personality for my characters.
Which of your characters most resembles you?
The nicer versions of Snape.
Where do you get ideas for your characters?
So far, most of my characters haven't been my own. But inspiration for what they do usually comes from reading other's works.
Do you ever write based on your dreams?
I have some original plot bunnies waiting that are based on dreams, but mostly no.
Do you prefer happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
Meaningful endings. I don't like to wrap a dirty story up into a tidy ending, just as I don't like to kill a character off at the end of a happy story just for kicks. I prefer endings that fit the story, whether happy, sad or thoughtful. But no cliff hangers. That's just mean.
Have you ever written anything based on an artwork you've seen?
I don't think so, although I did write Happy Birthday based on an artwork I did (Curiosity).
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Often. I'm trying to get over that and just write.
Ever write something entirely in chatspeak?
That would take way too much thought and time. I'm not good with foreign languages.
Does music help you write?
Rarely. Sometimes I'll get inspiration from music, but I cannot listen and write. My verbal center is way too easily distracted.
Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
I don't know. I could see how they might be, seeing as I'm not good with the spoken word, but I think that most people have known me long enough to have corresponded with me in some manner.
Quote something you've written:
From the last thing I wrote:
"I'm a floo call away, Severus," the matron said with a pat on his arm. "No one expects you to change her nappies."
He cast a frightened glance at the crib before looking back at Poppy.
"But..."
"She's asleep. As long as you don't startle her awake, she should stay asleep for at least another hour, maybe even two. And when she wakes up, just give me a floo. I'll show you how to take care of her then.
"Right now, though, I need some sleep. I suggest you get some rest as well. You've got a long day ahead of you."
The matron gave Snape another friendly pat on the arm and then left him standing in the room, alone with the baby.

Date: 2008-07-03 04:53 pm (UTC)I love what you posted as your quote from something that you've written. Poor Severus. I want to tread that! :)
And Curiosity is one of my favourite pieces and I adore the story that it inspired. :)
