Well, right now I am sitting here, waiting for Geoff to finish disconnecting the dishwasher so that we can move it and then go to bed. The kitchen is three-quarters demolished, with only the sink, dishwasher and side cabinet still in place. It's been a long, busy and productive day. Not bad, though, despite everything.

The worst part of the day was the uneasiness I felt upon leaving our cute fourteen-year-old babysitter to greet the plumber. We let the neighbors know what was going on, and more or less asked them to look after the babysitter for us, but it still felt wrong. However, there was no time to cancel our appointment.

But, after we got back (the plumber had, unfortunately, arrived while we were gone), we were able to start dismantling the kitchen, and even managed to save three of the four cabinets I wanted to save. The other one fell apart rather spectacularly while we figured out how it was attached.

The good side to the minor flood, was that a) this happened while our neighbor was cleaning her tub, b) this happened at the beginning of demo, and today rather than Monday, and c) I had a valid excuse to throw out junk that should have been tossed ages ago.

The good side to the day was that we went out and bought stuff. I now have the faucet, the new microwave and the slide-out trash can holder for under the sink. Whee! Also samples of knobs and pulls to think over.

Another good side was that I learned to hammer hard today. That is, a 3" nail embedded in wood was out in three hits or less. Ear plugs help with that, though.

But now I am tired. My arms especially are tired, but feeling stronger. As long as I keep up the flow of anti-inflammatories, I should be better than when we started.

Before bed, I should go check out when I could get a heating rod for the dishwasher. As Geoff just pointed out, it would be better to fix it before it gets reinstalled...

ETA: Oh, yes, today could have been much, much worse. Thanks to mysterious electrical goings on, Geoff thought the breaker for the dishwasher had been turned off. Thank goodness he is a cautious fellow, and told me he'd felt something, 'cause when I suggested he get his electrical meter (which he'd forgotten about), it turned out to be a full 120 volts going through those exposed wires. Combine that with the wet towels he was sitting on... *shudder*

I'd say today was a very good day, all told.
