I am going to be shutting off the computer soon, and I don't know when I'll be able to turn it back on.
Last night, after our thunderstornms of doom (which are really quite mild compared to the kind out west), there was standing water on our office floor. Um, this was no thanks to the iffy sump pump next door. This is our wall's fault.
SO... today will be spent packing up the office and moving it elsewhere so that we can rip out the wallboard and see just how fucked we are.
Good side? Two good sides, actually. One, I will get exercise. I have been in need of exercise. Two, we will very possibly get rid of the musdty smell that permeates the office. I really am not looking forward to seeing what condition the wallboard is in.
Then comes the questionable side of things. I'm actually hoping that the leak is from a crack in the foundation. It seems likely. If it is a crack in the foundation, then the association will have to pay to fix it, rather than us. If it is above the foundation, then... well...
Another thing that I can't decide whether it's good or bad is that when we move the furniture we'll be able to really assess what condition it's in. I think this will be when the wardrobe gets chucked. That's good and bad because, well, it is falling apart, and probably moldy to boot, but... well, it's storage space. We're going to have to buy some more at some point and... ergh. I just hope both the bookshelves are okay, although I'm not holding my breath. They've been sitting on this damp floor for some time now.
The bad side is that we don't have the money to just redo the whole office, so even though we'll be tearing it apart, we won't reap the benefits of the destruction except for those listed above. That's discouraging. Although perhaps while the floor is cleared of stuff, I'll get around to filling the holes and sealing it. Even if we can't tile it, that would improve things greatly (assuming the leak is fixed so the water doesn't come in and ruin everything again).
But, hopefully it'll smell better afterwards.
Anyway, I should go now so that the room is packed by the time Geoff gets home from work.
