Okay, so I've been documenting the changes the kitchen has been going through almost faithfully, which is a first for me. I usually forget to take 'before' shots until halfway through. Well, we are now almost halfway through, and we actually have proof that we're about halfway through, and we didn't just start with the current void.

So...

Please notice how the cabinet by the fridge is not exactly vertical. The cause of the lean would be due the lack of a side (also by the fridge). The fact that it is not completely discombobulated is thanks to my adding support to the base when I revamped the interior last year (or was it three years ago? Can't remember.) Also, if the enlargement shows it, notice the top of the counter by the fridge. See those brown marks? Well, that's where some skilled person took a saws-all to the counter and cabinet, thereby leaving it narrower for their convenience. To be fair to these skilled carpenters, I'm sure that their fridge was there to lend the support needed for the cabinet to remain vertical and intact.

So, that's the upshot of what it was like before. Here are the more current pictures:

Near the end of the first day of demo:

Proof that I did actually keep the floor pretty clean. That yellow area was under the island. There's not enough light to blame the rest of the floor's tint on fading...

A close up on the beautiful floor.

One of the big reasons we're doing this. The stuff in the bucket is what our drain has vomited up after the neighbors use their disposal. Nice, isn't it? The plumber comes on Wednesday to split the drain, so this won't happen ever again. Well, except for the whole shared sewer line thing. *sigh*

And, because these pictures are rather utilitarian, I thought of [livejournal.com profile] kribu and took a (hopefully) more interesting (though slightly blurry) shot:

So. There you have it. I should also take a picture of the living room just to show what our living conditions are, but I'll leave that for tomorrow. I have to find more batteries for the camera first.

Hopefully, Geoff will figure out the wiring weirdness tonight (or tomorrow). Hopefully, tomorrow we'll get the dryer and washer moved so that I can scrub away the ick from the flood, and then prep the area for tiling. (Small space, small project). Hopefully Geoff will get to the dump tomorrow morning with the body bags remains of our old kitchen. All but the really big pieces, which can wait until we rent a truck to get the subfloor for the living room.

Hopefully, the cabinets I ordered will look good, not cramped. Hopefully, the island top will look good with the counter tops. Hopefully, tomorrow Geoff will be able to rest a bit physically. Hopefully I won't ache tomorrow. Hopefully Babe won't be as unhappy with only me around to ignore him.

I can always hope.

Yeah, and we feel like dogs, too. ;-) We're both really pooped. I haven't been working nearly as hard as Geoff, but... gah. This is a big project.

I hope it'll look good! *wibbles*

:-)

Eek. This is a BIG undertaking! I know you've talked about this, but actually seeing all that needs to be done / is being done really helps put things into perspective. Oh, and the floor really is very nice!

We really need to do something about our kitchen ceiling, but as long as there is a bit of leakage from the upstairs neighbours plumbing, which there occasionally seems to be, it feels like a pointless job.

Huge. I didn't fully comprehend how big. I am so glad we're getting help putting everything in. The way we're fading, there's no way we'd be able to finish the cabinet installation in less than a month.

I know how that goes. Our bathroom ceiling needs to be fixed, but before that happens, we need to fix the other bathroom's floor so that there won't be any more leaks. :-( It would be pointless. Don't waste the time, energy or money!

Wow - that's a lot of work! The floor reminds me of what we have on the bathroom walls. The whole undertaking makes me think of the Bathroom of Doom. More power to you!

It is. We're exhausted.

Actually, I would like the floor if it were ceramic tiles on the wall. I don't know why it makes a difference... except for the sheer volume, that is...

How's the bathroom going, anyway? Any progress?

You are kidding - right?

Pretty much, yes. However, the designer in me can see how those tiles could work. And maybe even be livable. Maybe.

:D

You have already done a lot.
Just think how beautiful it is going to look when you are finished.

Yeah, we have. I must admit that I'm very pleased with myself for having cleaned up all our mess already. Breaking down the floor was a fair amount of work, but I got it all into the trunk of our car. Whee!

Gosh, I hope it'll be beautiful! I'm starting to wibble, but hopefully, it'll be good.
