Well, last night at a rather late hour, Geoff and I finished the kitchen floor. Whee! There's one piece left to be put in, but otherwise it is done.

Yay!

And then, after a gloriously late start this morning, I found out that the plumbers were possibly going to come over today at 1 to do the drain split that had been scheduled for the third.

That meant that I needed to have the sink and counters cleared, the cabinet ready to take out and the downstairs plumbing completely accessible. That meant a lot of cleaning in only a couple of hours.

So, I started with the dishes, then moved onto the counters then cleared out the cabinet. Then I went downstairs to tackle the tornado damage. *sigh*

I moved all the books that were piled on the coffee table (from when I had to move the bookcase so that Geoff could access the screws for the electrical panel) upstairs to behind the livingroom's boxes of flooring, moved the chair back upstairs and then realized I was tired and needed to sit down.

I also realized that it was after 1:00 and the plumbers weren't here. So, after catching up on the flist, I went to the bathroom.

And, of course, that's when the plumber showed up.

So yeah, I showed the plumber in, but he seemed to have absolutely no clue what was to be done. I told him, and he still seemed clueless. He looked at the basement and hemmed and hawed and said, well, I need to get back to the office to write up a thorough estimate for your management company.

What?

It's not like this company has never done any drain splits in these units before. ALL the bloody units were built with this stupid design, and yes, many of the units have been fixed! Besides which, didn't the plumbers who were here before tell anyone what the fuck was going on?

*breathes*

So anyway, I am slightly miffed about having done a lot of work in very little time that didn't need to get done so quickly. It was a complete waste of energy I don't have to spare that I really wanted to use on other things.

And then there's Babe, who is talking just to hear the sound of his voice. Unfortunately, he wants a response most of the time.

I have told him more than three times now that I need alone time, and to go play elsewhere, but he just won't leave. I'm going to yell soon, and then there will be tears and....

*breathes*

However, we did get the floor more or less finished. I did get the window trim primed, so I can paint it today. I did figure out how to do the sliders, so I can do that today as well, with a lot less fuss than I originally thought.

And perhaps we'll even get the frisge back in the kitchen tonight. Not likely, though, as electrical work (and wall repair) needs to happen before that's done.

But, on the good side, before I can paint the window trim, I need to use my lovely new mitre saw to cut the finishing trim and install that. And then it will look very nice indeed.

And sometime today, after Geoff returns the car, I can go out and collect paint chips so that I can figure out what color to paint the kitchen. Oh, and get a sheet of the accent tiles for the backsplash, as I'll need those to help me figure it out as well.

Hopefully that will cheer me up more than drain me. And at least I can turn on the stove tonight to make dinner at home. :-) That'll be a nice change.

But now, I need to take some time to rest and enjoy the fact that Babe did take me on my word and went downstairs. Perhaps I could even catch a nap? I can hope.

Cheers all.

ETA: Ah, but you know the cure to the grumps? A half hour of alone time, followed by making tea and cookies. Even if I can't complete the cookies until Geoff comes home for lunch (with instructions to bring eggs and chocolate chips with him), it has lifted my mood immensely.

Actually, just the half hour of silence lifted my mood immensely.

*happy sigh*

Babe is such a good kid.
