The problem with taking a day off...
Oct. 17th, 2008 11:12 amIs that I don't want to get back to work.
I'm trying to organize my thoughts enough to figure out what needs to be done when, but...
Geoff is likely going to be working this weekend, as there's a conference starting on Monday. The one thing I'm going to ask of him is that he completes the plumbing work so that we have a working kitchen sink again. A working dishwasher would be cool, too, but mostly I just want a working sink. The open drain is giving me nightmares.
Did I ever rant to you about the whole drain-dividing debacle? To recap, our neighbors and our kitchen drains were connected, meaning that we both had to defend our drains against each other's garbage disposals. The condo association would pay for them to be divided. Then there's the whole bit about Geoff sending away the first plumbers who came to divide the drain, but I won't get into that.
A plumber was rescheduled. No one told me. I stayed up late expecting to be able to sleep in, but the doorbell rang at 7:30 in the morning. I threw on my dressing robe and opened my eyes and the door at about the same time. The plumber had the temerity to chuckle before he said, "Weren't expecting me?"
I don't think I growled.
Anyway, I let him in, and as he brought in all his supplies, I went upstairs to get dressed. I came back down and collapsed on the couch, because, yeah, four hours of sleep is not enough.
He works for three hours or so as I doze through all his noise. He finally says he's done, and leaves me looking at the new kitchen sink plumbing. I don't remember whether my mouth was hanging open or not, but I was rendered rather speechless by his creation of plumbingness.

He managed to make the entire sink cabinet space utterly and completely useless. Sure, it made for plumbing ease, but, well, I'm sorry if I expected something more than just plumbing ease!
Anyway, the whole mess had to come out when the new sink base arrived anyway, and I asked Geoff if he'd be up for some plumbing, because I knew that if it stayed as it was, every time I opened the sink cabinet I would get pissed off, which is counter to the very idea of redoing a room.
He said he would, and he's worked really hard at cutting a new hole in a less conspicuous area, designing a better way of organizing the drain pipes and all that. He's spent a lot of time and effort on it already, and it isn't done, but it's going to be so much better. So very much better.
But now I have to quit stalling and figure out what I need to get done today. The paneling is one thing. Finishing up the shelves for painting would be another. Preparing the fridge area for the fridge would be good... And sanding the display case in preparation for painting, now that the wiring is done. (Whee!)
I don't know whether it's because it's getting so close to done or if it's because it's been going on so long that I'm finding it harder to not be discouraged at how long it's taking, or how far it is from done. I want to be able to think about other things. I want to be able to put my energy to other uses. I want to walk into my kitchen in the morning and sigh with pleasure as I take in the knowledge that it is good. And, being the spoiled brat that I am, I want it NOW!
Ach well. We'll get there.
And since I downlaoded all my pictures onto this computer, sometime today I'll try to post some of the prettier ones. Perhaps some other in-prog pics will sneak in, but, well, we'll see.
:-)
