A story I'd like to see...

Instead of Hermione being captured by Death Eaters and rescued by Snape, what about Ron being the one taken and rescued (by whatever means)? No, I am not asking for RW/SS. I am asking for an examination of how the dynamics of the war would change with a damaged Ron.

wow, that takes a lot of thought. do the Order and his family and friends know that he has been taken? are Harry and Hermione still busy finding Horcruxes and escaping Death Eaters? did he get captured during the period when Harry and Herms thought he'd abandoned them during the camping trip?

I think he'd try to be brave and resist telling his captors where Harry is, and he'd struggle with thoughts about nobody coming to rescue him 'cos they're too concerned with Harry. so if Harry and Herms (or his family) rescued him, he'd be happy. if Severus rescued him, he'd be upset and suspicious, and he'd still not think good things about Slytherins.

Of course, it would also depend on when he was taken. If it was at the end of sixth year, say as the DE's are retreating after AD's death, that would be very different from during the hunt. Especially if he was already weakened from wearing the horcrux.

I think you're right, though. He wouldn't give up Harry and Hermione, no matter what. However, the main story would be after he got rescued. Would he be able to put it aside and help Harry get the job done? Would he be too bent on revenge and rage and hurt to focus? Would he be too doubtful of his worth/ability to defend himself and/or the others? Would he lash out at Harry and/or Hermione? Would he withdraw into himself? Would he hold it all in until he explodes?

And I think it would particularly interesting if it were the cliched plot "SS raping to save" him line. Turn it all on its head.

There's not enough Ron-centric fic, and I say even though I am someone who isn't much keen on seeing him in pairings.

No, there isn't. In this area of fandom (Hell, even in canon) he's reduced to nothing more than a buffoonish caricature, but he's a good character. And he really is an essential part of the trio.

And yeah, I'm not too keen on seeing him in pairings, either. But I like him all the same.
