Not Demon!Boy!

Babe came in from his hours-long bicycle ride (with me for the first half-hour, his dad for the remainder...) drank a bit, ate a bit and promptly curled up on the edge of the couch and fell asleep. So far he's fallen off once (we put pillows down so it would be a soft landing), but it's looking like he's a twitch away from another fall. Funny thing is that when he did fall off, he didn't cry or anything. Just got right back up on the couch and was asleep a literal second later.
It's times like this that I enjoy being a mom.
Today was a long day for him, too. He didn't get as much sleep as usual, woke up before we were willing to get up, and then drove around with me for the better part of the morning. Without complaints. (Well, after the early morning temper tantrums, that is.) I even got his hair cut! It still needs washing (ick, ick, double ick!) but it's now short and reasonably stylish!
He also helped me take pictures of myself. He was charged with pushing the button to engage the self-timer. About half of them came out well; the rest were blurry from him wiggling or jumping on the bed (where the tripod was set up).
Overall, though, it's been a good day!
Hopefully I'll be able to get out and take some pictures of the apple orchards in bloom this weekend. They should be at their peak about now (it seems awfully early for that. Usually they peak first week of June!), judging by a drive we took earlier in the week.
And you know what's nice in a discouraging kind of way? I'm starting to feel limited by my camera. I want more lenses. Really, I probably just need to go through the manual (where did I put it?) and learn how to control it more fully, like utilize the manual focus and whatnot, but... Yeah. I've been taking enough pictures that I'm growing! A teensy bit, anyway. ;-)

Date: 2009-05-09 03:26 am (UTC)Beware of camera fever. I caught it when I started shooting my food 3 years ago and my sweet little hobby has become quite expensive. Camera lenses and flashes are pr0n for me and lately I have been looking at lighting equipment.

Date: 2009-05-11 10:04 pm (UTC)Yes, I know. When I got the camera, I got this one because I felt it would give me what I need as a painter... but I've since more or less given up painting. :-( Buuuut, the expense is probably enough to encourage me to continue with the paints until they're all gone!

Date: 2009-05-09 04:49 am (UTC)that's a great way to get Babe to sleep early -- exhaust him with physical activity. is he growing huge muscles in his legs??

Date: 2009-05-09 07:53 am (UTC)As for the camera... yeah. I can definitely say I know what you mean. And that's a slippery slope, that one.
(As for manual focus... you have a compact superzoom sort of thing, yes? Manual focus tends to be as good as useless with compacts, really... extremely hard to get right, and really, more trouble than it's worth. But then, I don't really bother with manual focus even with the DSLR.
Changing other settings manually is another matter, but again, with a compact, not necessarily very useful - the sensor size really limits what you can do aperture-wise, and the ISO limits what you can do shutter speed wise. But it's certainly worth fiddling with, to see what can be achieved.)

Date: 2009-05-11 10:13 pm (UTC)Yeah. I can't afford to go there right now, so I'm staying safely in the center of the road, away from that slope. But eventually...
For the time being, I need to find the manual. *nods*
