*The "patio" is in a stupid place. If I could start all over, I would move it toward the back of the property where there's nearly constant shade, leaving the area by the house (which gets nearly constant sun) free for vegetable/flower garden. Mosquito problem could then be dealt with using a screened canopy without blocking half of the picture window.
*Wondering if it's possible to root a wild rose from a cutting. The swamp is full of the lovely plants (just a fence away!), and they seem to grow just fine in the boggy shade, and they sure are purdy... Very small (3/4"), delicate, single white flowers all in a cluster. Not sure it's a rose, but the leaves sure look like rose leaves to me.
*Nurseries should sell pachysandra, right? I know HD and Lowes don't, but that doesn't mean anything.
*Black ajuga vs. variegated ivy in a pot: ajuga is ahead. I wonder if the impatiens (or ivy) will get choked out.
*Planted squash seeds today. White pumpkins. Hopefully they'll grow, even though they won't get much sun. Ever.
*What to do with the front tree this year? Pots and rocks again?
*wish big rocks weren't so darn expensive (either in chiropractic care or straight-up)
Other:
*grilled salmon for dinner tonight. Yay for leftover salad and veggies, meaning no prep work!
*my swedish ivies are really pale. Don't know what's killing them, but wondering if it's possible for them to get too much light. The leaves hanging down beyond the sun's reach are nice and green...
*I love my kitchen sink. Love love love.
*it never fails - give something away and soon after, you'll find a use for it. Granted, I'm not sure that pepper grinder was compatible with rock salt.
*speaking of which, need to go through more of my stuff for the garage sale this weekend. As it is, have three grocery store bags full of toys/kids stuff/clothes, tall kitchen bag of my clothes, and a wok set. Wonder if any of it'll sell. Kid's stuff should. Kids video tapes need to be sorted for sale, too.
*Bets are on whether Geoff will be joining us for our weekend away or not. The "emergency" at work is refusing to cooperate (last night at about 2, the server crashed, taking most of what he was working on with it. Making Sunday's work moot. Oh yeah, it was worth it working through the weekend.) I'm betting he won't, but then, I'm biased based on past experience and a dream just after we registered that focused on Geoff being needed at work the day we were to leave. Self-fulfilling prophecy or ESP? Nah, just basic observation skills teamed with anxiety.
Bah.
*neighbor!girl is expanding her English enough for me to almost understand her. Not bad. I think she'll be three this September.
*pleasant sort of day, really. Should work at getting more stuff done, but I'm feeling rather mellow, so I think I'll just enjoy it.

Date: 2009-06-08 08:58 pm (UTC)I know what you mean about the veggie garden - all areas I could put a garden in are semi-shade, meaning I never have a bumper crop. There's a concrete basketball court where the garden should be!!
I took out a bush this year to at least make it get light a little earlier, so at least it should get 5-6 hours of sunlight a day. Not enough, but better than nothing!
