Yeah. Still no progress.

It is incredibly difficult to get motivated to start cooking when one's stomach is feeling progressively more icky. I'm more convinced than ever that the tortillas last night were flour, not corn. Boo. Either that, or my reactions to tomatoes are growing stronger.

I think I will forgo stuffing and such on Thursday. That makes me sad, but at least there will be turkey. And sweet potatoes. And brussel sprouts. And... Are there any (cooked) non-starchy veggies that are traditional for Thanksgiving? Besides green bean casserole, which I have already said is revolting. Besides filled with flour.

...

But now to go make that pastry. Not difficult nor terribly time consuming. And it is something I enjoy. And it will ease my mind when it's done.

Not sure how popular these are in your part of the country, but buttered carrots and zucchini-squash casseroles are autumn colors. Stuffed-and-baked acorn squash or baked/roast squash would be nice. I've heard that New England dinners have lots of plain boiled vegetables such as boiled carrots, turnips, cabbage, and onions. In California, we often have a relish tray with carrot and celery sticks (and a dip), pitted olives, and pickles.

*facepalm* Duh! Of course zucchini are an option! I only have four of them in my fridge at the moment!

I swear... I reach amazing levels of idiocy at times. ;-)

Thanks!

zucchini and yellow squash, topped with marinara and/or cheese.... yummmy!

and if you can have rice, risotto is nice -- maybe stir in bits of asparagus for color.

other green stuff

If you like green beans just not the casserole my brother in law gave me a really tasty recipe

1 pound of bacon
1 tbs of pepper
1 tbs of onion powder
1 tbs of garlic powder
4 cans of green beans
cut the bacon into small about 1 inch square pieces
cook the bacon and seasoning together
when bacon is done add the green beans and cook for a minute or 2
drain the grease if you want

Hmm... replace fresh beans for canned (sorry, but that's desperation food to me *shudders*) and that does sound tasty! And with microwave cooking, it would be pretty quick, too. (Which would make the bacon all nice and crispy. Yum.)

Thanks!
