Dec. 21st, 2009 04:11 pmI know this is a "well, duh!" statement, but, good gracious Christmas is a lot of work! It's fun work, for the most part, but I will say I am not looking forward to cooking Christmas dinner. And I don't dare hand it over to Geoff.
I'm still trying to decide what we will have for dinner. Geoff suggested ham, which is easy but I don't care for it one bit. My mum suggested a rib roast, which would be nice if I could fine one... And confidence that I won't ruin it. I can bake up nearly anything, but I can not cook roasts. And don't even talk to me about making gravy. I know the steps and everything, but it just doesn't work for me.
Perhaps we'll do a turkey. That's almost as easy as ham, provides as many leftovers as ham and is cheaper than beef.
Plus then I would have an excuse to make cranberry sauce.
On the plus side, I know, more or less, what we're having for dessert. I made forgotten kisses yesterday, which are basically meringues with stuff (chocolate and pecans) folded in. There was too much for two cookie sheets, so I filled a pie pan with the leftovers. It'll make a nice base for a raspberry-chocolate pavlova. With nuts on top. Hopefully it'll be good. I'll make our trifle for New Year's.
On the non-food front, I am starting to get very jittery about singing the Hallelujah Chorus on Thursday. It's relatively easy for the most part, except for a little crucial bit in the middle of the beginning where it's not at all what my soprano brain wants to sing. Oh yeah, I'm singing alto on this piece cause my voice is still not up to snuff.
So, I've been using Noteworthy composer to try and figure it out, but my god, those notes go by fast! It didn't seem quite so bad in practice (granted I had to miss yesterday's practice), but... eep. It also doesn't help that we're using common source music with each part printed out separately, so there's no real ... placement or comparison or... It's difficult to follow, especially in the rested bits.
I will be practicing at least once a day till Thursday's dress rehearsal. Hopefully I'll be able to get it a little better by then.
And to wrap up on a completely unrelated, non-wibbly note, my computing experience has been improved tenfold since Geoff replaced our old replacement mouse with his laptop mouse. Oh! To be able to click and know it clicked! To be able to highlight with confidence! To copy, paste, drag and drop! It is almost like having a new computer. Only without the speed of a new computer. Ach well. It's better now, anyway. I might even get back into picture making. :-)

Date: 2009-12-22 02:52 am (UTC)I looked at the rib roasts today - sorry, but I am not going to pay $ 40 for a piece of meat! Just isn't going to happen.
