Happy New Year!
Jan. 1st, 2010 12:34 pmSo, last night was, beyond a doubt, the very best New Year's Eve/New Year's I've ever, ever experienced.
We went to a wedding. A couple from our church decided to get married at 12:01, just when the new law allowing them to get married went into affect.
It was so incredibly beautiful and moving and fun and perfect. I really can't describe it, except that we all, the entire church, sang the couple down the aisle - which describes the mood of the entire evening.
And then, after the vows were said and the rings exchanged, our minister declared them legally married, and the entire church erupted in cheers.
God, it was so Good. I am blessed to have these people in my life and blessed to know that they can now be legally married after thirteen years of being in a loving relationship.
It's about time.
I hope everyone else had as wonderful an intro to the New Year (and new decade), and may this year be as wonderful as the last was horrible.

Happy New Year, my friend!

Date: 2010-01-02 04:58 am (UTC)If you look only to Leviticus, God was a right bastard of an authoritarian. Perhaps that's why Jesus was sent to teach us that, really, we're all in it together, and love is what counts, not differences.
Happy New Year to you as well! May your year be bounteous with joy!

Date: 2010-01-02 04:53 am (UTC)The only thing I could wish for is that one pair of parents would accept them as everyone else has. And that their marriage could be recognized throughout the country, should they need to move. But... maybe it'll happen in our lives. I sure hope so.

It really was amazing. It was like the night Obama was elected, only more personal and therefore much more intense.

Sounds like a wonderful day!
