Since I've been a grump lately, I will try to balance it out now.

Good things; or, That Which I Am Grateful For:

1. Baked kale. Seriously yummy, crispy, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Take the stems off the washed and dried kale leaves, tear them (the leaves, that is) up into bigger than bite sized pieces (though use the smaller pieces, too!), oil them up with olive oil and spread out on a baking sheet and sprinkle with salt. Bake for about five minutes at 375. Can also be done in the microwave.

2. Not having to juggle or do a balancing act to move through or retrieve anything from the office. Still not clean or organized, but it doesn't look like a trash heap now.

3. Pretty rocks. I have a thing for rocks, both semi-precious minerals and quartz and just... pretty rocks. I've got one on the desk I picked up on the beach at Comox last summer, and every now and again, I'll pick it up and turn it over, examining the textural differences and the subtle color shifts. This particular rock is a very pale green, almost lichen green, though where the texture roughens, it shows an almost canary yellow base. All very subtle, but somehow very soothing to rub the pad of my thumb over in exploration. I wonder what kind of rock it is...

4. Ginger. She's the person who hosts the painting group meetings every week, but even without that, I would still count her as a blessing in my life. She is... she is. She is warm, welcoming and completely comfortable and is most comfortable when everyone around her is comfortable and at home. She also has good cheese. Oh hell, ALL her food is good!

5. Art. Today wasn't the most satisfying art session ever (I messed up my piece, which will make for more work I didn't want to do), but giving myself at least an hour every day to work on something - and I'm finding my preference is to work on something till its completion - has been... strengthening. Heartening. Good. It's always better when I have good energy to start with, but doing art helps generate energy, and that's good.

Honorary mention: All my art teachers who have taught me to see well enough to be able to help others see. I taught one of our group members (the one who asked for painting lessons a while back) a trick on how to see a color for what it really is rather than what we think it is. In this case, yellow became purple, and it made the painting she was working on cohere. Very, very satisfying to see. I still have huge gaps of knowledge where art is concerned, but... it makes me feel good that I can help when needed. =)

There. I feel much better now. Yay!

Kale sounds phenomenal. Will try it this way.

Also: I'm so glad you can give thanks for your art. This is like that moment in the Emily books when she gives thanks for being given leave to work. I feel this gratitude almost daily, even when the writing isn't working: like today.

Oh, it is! It's somewhat tricky to get it just right so that it's crispy without tasting burnt, but it's worth the watching.

Yeah, it is, isn't it? To be able to create, even when it doesn't work, is a blessing. Amen (i.e. so ner)

I have no idea about colours. I think it's why I'm afraid of using them.

The fear I endured, doing the panther eye in "Animagus"...

Your sparse use of colors (as far as I've seen) is very dramatic and effective, I think. And that panther eye is goooorgeous!

I think you're harshing on yourself needlessly, though. :-(
